So far I have 12 out of 15 S5's upgraded to the latest firmware and zero issues.

On the fans speed % I have a hunch it is the percent of the fans rated rpm range - not 0 to max rpm. Yes, PWM fans DO recognize a zero speed command but next notch up is usually around 1/2 their max rpm rating and up from there.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

I faced similar problem after upgrading to the `SD-S5-20150715-fan_ctrl.tar.gz' image.
The S5 was hashing for 3days with the new firmware, but stopped suddenly.
The S5 would not hash even after repeated reboots of the controller.

Rolling back to the old firmware `SD-S5-20150415.tar' made the S5 hash again.

I did the update yesterday.

My first bootup had some issues with chain 1.   --------------- chain 2 was up 00000000000 (maybe vice versa)

The 2nd bootup was also a bit strange: chain 1 showed up with 52 chips running 000 ; chain 2 was down with 8 chips.

3rd bootup was a success chain 1+2 with each 30 chips running - since then no problems at all.

I also have a fan-speedcontrol (an old Zalman fanmate2). When I lower the speed to ~45% rpm the S5 was beeping and not hashing anymore, temps are still good (45-55°C). My guess is, that it happens at 50°C - then the fans should speed up, the system recognized that as a failure and it does the shutdown.

beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeep  on 4 s5's with the latest firmware.
I also rolled back.... very much disappointed in such a crappy firmware.
This time its just a beep, what if it had wrecked the miner?
Their super support team would just blame it on the user like always.

Check the FAN connector.

Fan  MUST BE in FAN1 position.

If you see readings Fan1 0 ,   Fan2 some number, the software is not working.

Thanks for the tip! It was indeed the fan connector. If there is no Fan connected on Fan1, the miner will not hash.

I haven't tried the new Bitmain firmware because of all the issues listed herein.

I switched over to the Antminer S5 firmware image provided by nicehash available here: https://www.nicehash.com/?p=software

You will note they use CGMiner 4.9.0. They state on their website: "You can download pre-compiled binaries for AntMiners with updated cgminer and extranonoce.subscribe patch and replace stock AntMiner cgminer binary or firmware to benefit from newer cgminer and extranonce.subscribe for better efficiency".

I agree with their statement as I experienced increased speed and a lot less rejected shares using the extranonoce subscribe patch.
