The U.S. Department of Justice announced plans to investigate the group that produced undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood employees admitting that they harvest and sell organs ripped from the bodies aborted babies. Politico reported the news of the coming DOJ investigation earlier today:

JUSTICE TO PROBE CENTER FOR MEDICAL PROGRESS — While congressional committees investigate Planned Parenthood’s practices, the Justice Department agreed to look into whether the group that released the sting videos obtained the footage legally. In response to a request by House Democrats, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Wednesday afternoon that Justice would “review all of the information and determine what the appropriate steps moving forward would be.” Planned Parenthood has staunchly defended its practices and claims that the Center for Medical Progress illegally obtained its footage, then excessively edited it to misrepresent what the organization does.

The DOJ investigation of the Center for Medical Progress, which, unlike Planned Parenthood, is not in the business of killing healthy, viable unborn babies in order to sell their organs for cash, was announced after several Democratic lawmakers called for the organization to be targeted:

Four Democrats in Congress — Reps. Jan Schakowsky, Zoe Lofgren, Jerry Nadler, and Yvette Clarke — have written to Attorney General Loretta Lynch and California Attorney General Kamala Harris, asking them to open investigations into the Center for Medical Progress. The Democrats say the videos were filmed as part of an “elaborate scheme” — using “fake identification” and without the approval of the Planned Parenthood doctor who appears in them.

So they are going to investigate the group that brought this horror to light but not PP which is violating the law. Just amazing.

Sounds like a good idea. They're a shady organization that resorts to blatant slander, lies, and disinformation. In addition, they may have lied about their nonprofit status to the IRS.

No evidence PP is violating the law.

And they are just reviewing the information, not investigating yet.

I see no problem with it. If their practices are on the up-and-up, then they have nothing to worry about.

The Obama Administration and their DOJ seem to have quite the talent for always being on the wrong side of a story.

No surprise at all.

Maybe, maybe not. A lot can be done in the editing room. I'd like to see the unedited video.

Nothing illegal has showed up in any of the videos. Despite some slanted editing (to be expected from a group that is fanatically anti-rights), they were unable to find anything PP is doing wrong. Anyway, PP is a recipient of government money, and as such is subject to continuous monitoring and auditing.

The whole purpose of making those videos was to try to paint in the worst possible light, an aspect of the PP operation most likely to fire up the woohoos, and it did that. I personally doubt either PP or the anto-abortion wingnuts violated any laws. I wouldn't mind seeing a few carefully edited expose videos of the wingnuts being released. This is a PR battle, intended to smear without actually alleging. We know who will fall for it, we see it right here.

What's the lie? Prove it. The fact is this goes totally with their mission statement under which they operate as a non-profit. This is a social issue. How about the IRS looking into PP non-profit status?

You can't put words in anyone's mouth and neither PP or the persons in the videos have stated they did.

Yes it did, when they state that they use a different method of abortion in order to preserve the organs and in fact do not even tell the mothers they are doing so. And then of course when the one negotiates for a higher price and talks about needing enough to buy her Lamborgini and then of course the pamplets with the endorsement of the President of PP telling the individual clinics how they can profit more using this particular broker for the organs they harvest.

This is how I see it, too. If laws have been broken, we will find out after the investigations. I highly doubt that PP has been conspiring as an organization. That doesn't mean that we won't find corruption at certain locations or with certain individuals. We shall see.

There is a difference between illegal (as in, violating the law) and undesirable (as in "I wish so hard to punish these people I could pizzle my pants, therefore they must be doing something illegal"). You have got these two confused.

The founders have ties to anti-choice terrorism.

Maybe it's no coincidence that last night's shooter was also avidly anti-choice...

Sounds like we need some "enhanced interrogation" to make sure there's no substantial domestic terrorism plot.

But progressives have been arguing for 15 years that "enhanced interrogation" efforts were morally wrong. Wouldn't they be giant hypocrites if they suddenly started advocating for them? Maybe it's only morally wrong when brown Muslims are subjected to it?

What's the lie? Prove it. The fact is this goes totally with their mission statement under which they operate as a non-profit. This is a social issue. How about the IRS looking into PP non-profit status?

Also, California has a 2 party consent wiretapping law which these CMP trolls broke. The videos represent multiple violations of this law and opens them up to lawsuits.

The anti-choice group filed for tax-exempt status as a biomedical charity. I suspect the IRS isn't going to be too happy with their deception either.

You can't put words in anyone's mouth and neither PP or the persons in the videos have stated they did.

To anyone who has watched the full video or read the whole transcript it definitively demonstrates that PP wasn't discussing profit.
