VPN service shouldn't require a download of any sort (obviously, unless it is checked for malware thoroughly it should be assumed to be such). All VPN service needs is a server address, choice of protocol, possibly authentication, and a server at that address running a VPN service over that protocol.

tl;dr: STAY AWAY. Don't get malware.
I have recently become active again after a long period of inactivity. Cryptographic proof that my account has not been compromised is available.

If the OP is referring to zenmate, the vpn is safe to use and virus free, it is like an add on for google chrome or Mozilla firefox.
