US presidential candidate Rick Perry has stated he supports "regulatory breathing room" for digital currencies such as bitcoin. The comments came during a new interview with The New York Observer that found Perry elaborating on issues that could form the core of his fiscal policy. In the interview, Perry roundly denounced perceived issues in the financial system, stating: "“Wall Street should not be left off the hook for their bad behavior … instead of them being punished, it was the average American who paid the tremendous price. The fact of the matter is, to be quite frank: we got screwed."

Maybe his general stance on wall street has a bigger impact though. Very nice to have some support from higher up

Interesting... I would not expect Gov Perry to take a stance such as this, perhaps perception/awareness of crypo-currencies is greater than I thought.

The Texas governor position is more of an ambassador role and has no real power so they just put up empty suits with a southern drawl and who can act like a cowboy.
Any success Texas had while he was governor had more to do with the price of oil going up to around $150 per barrel while he was governor than anything he did. His getting paid by Merk to force teenage girls to get vaccinated for a specific strain of STD (that they later discovered causes cancer) is about as much as he ever did as governor.
Not worried about him becoming president anyway. His mouth will make sure that doesn't happen (same with Trump).

Too bad Rick Perry won't have a chance to become a president. I really liked this statement. This guy is too straightforward (the same as Trump) and he is not necessarily king of the political correctness. Candidates are looking supporters on every possible field, even couple thousands/millions of bitcoin enthusiasts can change something. I still think his opinion is more like publicity stunt.

Bitcoin has been said by Perry and Abbot to not need any regulation, the complete reverse of places like New York. I confess to not being able to specifically prove that this was advocated by Perry, Abbot, both, or perhaps just the general atmosphere in Texas. But even so if Perry reflects that general atmosphere, that's different than assuming his opinion on bitcoin is the bullshit of a politician....

? The Texas governor has no real power? Where do you get this from? Please explain. http://mindwanderingsinsanantonio.blogspot.de/2010/10/how-much-power-does-governor-of-texas.htmlNow the Governor's powers are limited to appointments to over 200 boards and commissions in Texas (approximately 3000 positions), mobilization of the Texas National Guard and Texas Rangers, and the line item veto. Just about every other office besides the board and commissions are elected by the People. The Governor has to be a very good persuader to get the Legislature (the law making and budgetary authority) to do what he wants, but he has no formal power over them. http://kut.org/post/why-lieutenant-governor-most-powerful-office-texas-and-who-wants-powerMost power lies with the Lieutenant governor: First up, the lieutenant governor gets to be governor if the governor dies and even if the governor just leaves the state for a few days. "The lieutenant governor appoints all the committee chairs of the committees in the Senate, determines where the bills are going to be sent and to what committees and the timing. And so this is extremely powerful," every bill has to come through a Senate Committee before it gets a final vote. Getting passed by the Senate is tough enough. But it's impossible if your bill never gets out of committee. Which makes the Lt. Governor's power to pick where to send a bill very important. he can always send it over here you know to [the] State Affairs [committee] where he's stacked it with his friends, instead of over to say, [the] Health and Human Services [committee], where maybe he doesn't have as many friends, The lieutenant governor still has power over a bill even if it makes it out of committee. They decide when a bill comes up for a vote, and when to recognize a senator for any floor action.

Rick Perry has the same stance as Greg Abbot (current governor of texas) and Abbot is currently accepting bitcoin donations. Rand Paul accepts bitcoins as well, and since he is always top 5, he will be our biggest chance as the "bitcoin" candidate

And you don't like stuff he with his "no real power"...
Well I do know that Perry would do about as well as president as the last Texas governor turned president. And they are both about as intelligent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uvmKnFY4uk

Well, you could equally say that of any politician. Fact is, you've got one here that's bitcoin friendly. Hate him all you want, that is what it is. By the way I agree with you that we can't create a cause and effect model of the success of Texas using Perry as causation. There are many factors at work and he may reflect them, more than being a single cause. Regardless, here is a factoid for your liberalbrain. Strange that you think I'm a liberal just because I know Perry is an empty shell/puppet. I don't hate him, I know that he has no chance of becoming president so he really does not matter. That's why I don't see his stance on Bitcoin as that big of a deal. Other than the fact that him talking about Bitcoin would probably hugely misrepresent it to people who listen to him and hear about Bitcoin for the first time.

That's rather tedious and a waste of my time, when the subject is one endorsing bitcoin. I do have an opinion that bitcoin needs diverse support and does not belong on one side of any political spectrum. Oh, by the way, LBJ had exactly the same kinds of insults as you offer Perry, and Bush. Meanwhile people from CA, NJ and NY keep coming to Texas. Have a nice day!

I like Texas, I lived there while Perry was governor. I was even a Republican delegate at the state convention in 2008. I would probably live in Texas if I came back to the US. But Perry is about as fake of a politician as you can get.
