Updating OS 10.5.8

I just got my hands on a 10.5.8 Mac and want to upgrade to 10.6 and do not want to pay at the app store.
Any ideas where I can get a free upgrade?

If not I will swallow hard and pay the $20 to get it at the app store.

10.5.8? dude that's years old.

is the hardware very old? because you can upgrade to 10.10 yosemite for free.

2009ish..Just need to get it to 10.6 and then 10.7. 10.10 is to far past this computers capability. Will just pay the $20 in a week was being Scottish about this.
