Fortunately I still can do pretty much anything in my country in my home connection, but we're slowly crawling to an "Intranet" like the one on China and other countries. For the first time a website was blocked here (The Pirate Bay), and I think many others will follow.

As for Bitcoin, I don't see it ever being blocked, honestly. As it won't probably ever be regulated here...

Hello guys, I am very depressed. I live in China mainland, each time when I try to login to Bitcoin client(I use portable Electrum most) I must seek for a proxy or VPN. Without a proxy or vpn, the client can't hardly connect to the network.  Sometimes,  I cannot even access Bitcointalk and Blockchain freely without using a proxy or vpn, and yes, at the moment, I am using a vpn browsing Bitcointalk and starting this topic.
Have you ever travel to China? We get no access to Twitter, Facebook, Gmail and many many many other websites that are hosted abroad.
Can you use Bitcoin freely and access Bitcointalk and Blockchain freely without using a proxy/VPN in your country?
They can't block all vpn service, they can only do that if they blocked all encrypted transmission. You can buy a vps that is based outside china

Didn't know some countries blocked access through VPN's , but I doubt there is anyway to stop people from using them to access the site. As for using Bitcoin, is there anyway of using it for your wallet to route it through your network?

If I were to use a VPN wouldn't VPN only be valid for the browsers and not the bitcoin wallet on my PC ? or would that too be connected through the VPN ?

When you use VPN, it relays all of your traffic through allocated VPN server, that means not only your web site traffic, but everything from torrents to bitcoin wallets.
Please note that i'm talking about real VPN, and not those "in browser proxy's", which i suggest everyone avoid in a wide circle.
Some free VPN's won't allow your p2p traffic to go through tho, you must buy/activate it first.

cheers

Sorry to hear about that but don't you have a chinese equivalent to twitter, fb, gmail , bitcointalk ..?
I know that China wants to protect its people from American ideologies so that is why they ban US sites.
As China owns US debts, their government might be afraid of Bitcoin: what if bitcoin was created by US government to get out of $ debt and China?

I've been accessing this board and blockchain.info from most European countries. I was free to surf, but that didn't mean nobody was watching me, and following my moves via a spy in a router somewhere.

Note that it's possible to access blockchain.info via TOR.
