In Effort To Neutralize ISIS And Protect American-Trained Forces, U.S. To Conduct Airstrikes In Syria

Pentagon spokeswoman Commander Elissa Smith refused to comment on the rules of engagement, but said the U.S. military's program focuses "first and foremost" on combating Islamic State militants.

The United States has decided to allow airstrikes to defend Syrian rebels trained by the U.S. military from any attackers, even if the enemies hail from forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, U.S. officials said on Sunday.

The decision by President Barack Obama, which could deepen the U.S. role in Syria's conflict, aims to shield a still-fledging group of Syrian fighters armed and trained by the United States to battle Islamic State militants -- not forces loyal to Assad.

But in Syria's messy civil war, Islamic State is only one of the threats to the U.S. recruits. The first batch of U.S.-trained forces deployed to northern Syria came under fire on Friday from other militants, triggering the first known U.S. airstrikes to support them.

Bad idea. This action can escalate the situation on the whole Middle East, as the SAA have some quite capable AA gear, but if they shot down US planes, the US surely going to retaliate, what will most likely piss off both Iran and Russia (and maybe China too). BTW this decision on it's own can be enough provocation for Russia, to complete the deployment of some already delivered but not yet installed S-300 systems for boosting the Syrian AA defences.

It will escalate situation for sure. Just as it was planned. That's what america wants. More fightings, more blood, more deaths, more instability. They need a new war. And they are pushing the world into it.

WTF? See the contradiction. In order to defeat the ISIS, the Americans will bomb the forces of Bashar al Assad, who are fighting the ISIS. Knowing the average IQ of the people who listen to the American propaganda, I am sure that NATO will face no opposition from the Westerners. On one side Turkey is bombing the Kurds who are fighting the ISIS. And on the other side, the Americans are destroying the forces of Assad, who are also fighting the ISIS. The ISIS guys will be quite happy with the latest development.
