Or anyway, 80% of Bitcoins are sold to Yuan.

And they only have some 15 nodes? That's awful, really.

86 nodes running in the whole of China? That has to be wrong, surely? Must be literally 10 times that. I'm shocked if there are only 86 people running a full node in China. Maybe I just vastly underestimated the number of people who are willing to help the community by running a full node

This seems legit, makes total sense. I mean, not only do the chinese nodes need to circumvent the Great Firewall, it's also in their interest to keep their activity hidden from the Chinese government.

that node tally means nothing..
i know many miners who block incoming data from other IP's and only allow data transfers to the main pool. so even if they have 1000 users. it only shows as 1 IP collectively on the bitnodes.io website.

i also know that some users with the bitcoin-core. do not show up on bitnodes.io.

so take the numbers with a pinch of salt.

even i personally have recoded my client to not link to bitnodes. and instead have a huge list of reliable and loyal bitcoin users that i link to. in the end i dont want to be reliant on a website to be grabbing IP's to establish the network. instead i have multiple IP's in multiple countries, just incase bitnodes messes up, i dont want to limit my connectivity to the bitcoin network.

There is no reward, yet thousands of people still run nodes.


Since China does a lot of censorship and firewalling (Great Firewall of China), the nodes there probably are behind Tor or a VPN so they don't show as coming from China. Furthermore, most of the miners there are not solo mining, so they don't need their own nodes. The mining pools in China need full nodes, but other miners connecting to those pools don't need full nodes.

VPS too, and a lot of stuff is blocked in china including this forum. but that does not explain how those 88 nodes are running from chinese ips right now, maybe special internet access for the rich?

I am not sure why this would be shameful, maybe you mean they should have more.  But I agree that most likely many of them are hidden.

it is low for sure. as ajareselde mentioned, it could be due to people using a vpn to hide their real ip. but if you look at the total amount of nodes in the world, then you also see that there are just a few thousand nodes. hope it will at least double in the comming years.

There really should be some incentive for running a node, then they'd be all over it. Until then they're just going to mine and mine regardless of what the network needs. Not really the most altruistic business men over there(or anywhere for that matter)

Agree to that. With a little logic sense, with the many bitcoins users, there must be more than 86 nodes. For god sake, there is a 1 Billion people there, just 0,0000086% of the population running a node. Dont add up.

gogxmagog I agree.  But you can't expect altruism.  I think for some idealistic people bitcoin is a great cause, be your own bank and all that.  But for many, and not just Chinese, it is a business, and if no clear benefit to running a node, they wont.

In China many of these miners are tapping free electricity via a state-run entity. State-run companies are really privately run fiefdoms. So anyone with an 'in', even a mid-level employee, can set up mining equipment in or nearby to the eletricity source, and run the operation with state-provided electricity. All cost/competition models should recognize that Chinese competitors have essentially zero electricity costs. No the environment and the state coffers, of course THEY pay.

Question for OP, how many nodes should they run?

well my node cost 32 watts to run.  which is about .75 kwatt per day or  21-22 kwatts a month  which for summer rates = $3.60 usd  each month for winter $ 2.60 USD

I also use my node pc to mine  using cgminer and sidehack's usb sticks so one could argue  my true cost is under 32 watts.  either way  getting 2 bucks usd each month to run a node would be nice.

Just say your right and China is pretty slack in making nodes it makes sense to me.


What I know about Asia generally is people here don't care that much about strangers, most care and attention is given to family members, not people outside they don't know.

North American and Europeans I find particularly young generation without family obligations tend to think altruistically as some kind of justification and it's the prevalent trend in social media etc, pay it forwards etc and soooo many memes and viral stuff on FB about being randomly 'good' to people you don't know. Asians are different they care about their own and are know for not giving to charities etc. I personally think Asia is far healthier, families are susposed to be close. Charity truly does begin at home first. People giving altruistically to faceless people is good but kind of sad if they then get upset others don't do the same. IMO.

Yeah, that could be the truth, As a Chinese, I believe most Chinese who get involved in Bitcoin doesn't have a faith in Bitcoin, and the reason why they are working with Bitcoin is to earn money, I mean the most people, but there are still people who contribute his power to the Bitcoin network selflessly.

Why would they care about sustaining a Bitcoin network, if they do not even care about nature and the environment? The air in their cities is so poluted, they have to wear masks, when they go outdoor. 

I do not think it's got anything to do with censorship / VPN's / Firewalls .... They simply do not care, and they are only into this for what they can take out of it.

We are talking about people, who eat dolpins and dogs .... Do you think they worry about the sustainability of a Bitcoin network?

Those nodes are probably only the mining farms, that are grabbing all the fresh coins and selling them for fiat, to make some profit. We will find it difficult to understand their culture, because we come from different

backgrounds and beliefs.
