Man suffocated to death in car trunk while trying to illegally enter Spanish city of Almeria by ferry. A 27-year-old Moroccan man has suffocated to death while trying to illegally enter Spain hidden inside a suitcase in the trunk of a car, police have said. The man's older brother, who appears to have tried to help smuggle him into the southern Spanish city of Almeria by ferry, has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. The older man, aged 34, boarded the ferry linking Melilla, a Spanish territory in North Africa, and Almeria with a car on Sunday, a police spokesman said. During the crossing he noticed that his brother was not breathing and alerted the ferry's staff. Crew members as well as emergency services workers in the port of Almeria tried in vain to resuscitate the man. I don't even understand how someone could voluntarily put themselves into a suitcase or not stand it for long at least. The CIA used to use a torture method of locking people in large suitcases or boxes and you start to panic and overheat after a short while.

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

It's not that hard to understand , they don't like the situation in their countries . Spain is near Morroco and it's the portal to Europe . same goes for Algeria and France , people take risks to go with a small boat in 5-10 persons in a small boat . Two things could happen : he arrive to Europe and make situation to himself or he die on the sea .

I don't really mind illegal immigrants, people will do what they do. It's somewhat sad that they don't realize that the grass is never greener on the other side, it's the same everywhere. The thing is I don't believe the system currently has the power to completely mesmerize people, everyone still has some lingering awareness of the world beyond the human world and that should be enough to allow people to second-guess themselves. There is unfortunately no solace for someone who knowingly goes against his/her better judgement. As an example, the decision to have babies cannot be a straightforward one for people living in extremely poor or war-ridden countries (as a matter of fact this can be extended to the rest of the world) simply because they would be implicating lives other than their own.

this is no doubt true for some homeless folks who resort to mugging and burglary, the answer is the same, their survival or mine, i wont hand over my country to an invader any more than i would hand over my personal belongings to a thief

This is a very sad story, in search for a better life he lost his life. But all in all that is a very silly way to try to smuggle someone. It is a person in a suitcase, it is not a boy or a little girl, it is a fully grown man. How can you consider smuggling an alive human being no matter is it a little kid or a fully grown man is a good idea.

some people will never or just dont want to understand things like that, they are sufficiently comfortable with their pretty lifes... empathy is not for them. btw the main problem here is why they need to do that, is sad how is going on some "countrys".

We can't understand it because we live good lives (the relatively good compared to the people of Africa) and we can not understand the misery and despair of the people of Africa. What do you think, how much this man was desperate that he was willing to do such crazy thing? I think that our governments should seriously address this problem and not only addressing the consequences of the problem but also causes. If we can't solve the politic problems in countries such as Syria and Iraq, Europe will not be able to permanently solve the refugee crisis on its borders.

Its kind of ironic that these countries are acting like their hands are tied and can not do anything to change things. They need to come down hard on the people that supply them board and those that supply them with work. They work on it from that aspect it solves the issue within a matter of months. The fact they allow people to seek the dream of working in Europe illegally shows how little they care for these peoples lives. Its really that easy, setting up fences will no change a thing.

Someone should write a guide about the things not to do to be a successful illegal immigrant. 1/ Don't have a friend lock you up in a suitcase inside the trunk of a car. 2/ Don't try to cross a desert on foot. 3/ Don't get aboard a boat designed for 50 passengers when there's already 500 people there. Etc, etc...
Actually, it's only common sense.

And the worst this people are paying several thousands $ for that. Getting loans, selling all there property etc.

Morocco is a rich nation, when compared to the other sub-Saharan African nations such as Nigeria and Gambia. So it is certain that this Moroccan guy was not starving, or finding it really difficult to survive out there. If you think that shipping people from the developing world to the developed world is the ultimate solution, then tell me how many of these people you are willing to accept in your country? 1 million? 100 million? Or even 1 billion?

This is one of the most absurd stories I've heard recently but I don't think it deserves the spotlight it's getting over the situation in the Mediterranean and more specifically Italy and Greece. Turkey is letting smugglers get people to cross the borders with zero checks, ignoring procedures and putting them at risk. And the EU is pressuring the countries saving them, as if the financial crisis wasn't good enough for a hit.
