Anyone saw this too? seems like a serious spam attack, it doesn't stop showing up new transactions.

This is weird. The transactions keep coming too, for about the same amount. But it looks like the address is paying itself - I'm sure I'm not reading the site correctly, what am I missing? How do we know where the transactions from this 1mtgox address are going?

How did you stumble on this?

Well I'm not sure why you would be surprised by this. We've already had spam attacks, and I expected more to come. Someone simply used vanitygen to get '1mtgox' within their address and started spamming.
Here we can see that there are only about 7.4k unconfirmed transactions so it isn't that big of a deal yet.

Update:

However, people should not panic. Just include fees that are bit higher and you're fine.

This person collected dust outputs from spam-attack to his address.
Now he is merging small outputs to larger ones.

That is funny. It is like it is caught in a loop or something. Maybe someones bot is misbehaving. the timing looks pretty randome though, so maybe it is manual?

Why are these people spamming the network?

Everything was fine for around 20 days and again this is happening.

There is no objective except to emphasize the address of 1mtgoxNrDZgrs6zP1MdEToSNTAeeeU2VH and probably to celebrate the arrest of Mark Karpeles?

There are a number of accounts doing this.
For example  https://blockchain.info/address/155M7TvBRww6WFdtGQgTYUH8DuLheNafCf
merges previously collected outputs

maybe thats exatly what they want to made some spam, dunno something like stress the blockchain or just free publicity? or maybe this is something related with teh recent news about Mark Karpeles.

in any case is not good for all.

Now someone has demonstrated it's possible to attack the network with spam there will be endless new spam attacks because people often like to copy things others have done. The first attacks might have been to highlight the need to change Bitcoin to allow it to scale, but there will be new attacks that are purely malicious because you always get a few bad apples.

I saw this too myself yesterday, it was all over the place in blockchain.info's frontpage due the volume of the constant microtransactions. Seems definitely like an attack.

How are they merging the small outputs from spam attacks? I tried spending some as mining fees and I couldn't, tried with Bitcoin Core and Armory.

I don't know but I'm getting fed up of it to be honest. How are we ever going to get taken seriously if this continues? I appreciate there was a need for stress testing but surely that's done now. This is just needless trolling. I think fees need to be increased slightly & all transactions with no fee refused, it may stop this then.

If you are not stingy with your transaction fees, there is no problem with spam like this.

Well we are offering a service, to the world at this moment, and everybody has a right to do as they want in my opinion! Now why are they doing this and what are they trying to achieve is another question, I don't know!

But if we don't like what are they doing, all that we can do is change the rules so we prevent these people. If we don't change these rules, I don't see anything from complaining.

What's even more sad is complaining about it and begging for attackers to stop attacking. Do you think the traditional banking system isn't under constant attacks? everyone is trying to get money and this involves attacks. What we need is a stronger defense. When Bitcoin goes mainstream the attacks will be x1000000 times harder and more constant so we better figure out how to make them futile.
