I think this is normal since bitcoin got many new followers each day. This is not the old bitcointalk that were mostly bitcoin fanatics. They value the deep concepts of bitcoin and the freedom it gives.

Now most users are general public, mostly wanted to earn money by any means possible.

About the scammers , much of the scammers are using OLD accounts or are OLD guys of 2013 and 2014 ,which goes against your statement that BCT was better a year back.

My thoughts exactly. If you see a scam it's mostly old acconts bought by new persons (I guess). It's the same shit as allways in my opninion

Way too many trolls who are allowed to troll and derail topics. Some trolls have even created 4-5 topics that have been moved to the trash can without any consequence.

We've been on a downward price spiral for 18 months, there's just a lot of idiots & trolls/haters enjoying laughing at others expense. The tide will turn though, Bitcoin is way too important & innovative to continue at these kind of prices. Give it time & when the price moves up rapidly all the rats will desert the ship.

Most of the trolls & haters are the same few people with sock puppets/alts. Bitcoin will rise again just make sure you HODL a good stash for better times.

Yep, trolls and scammers can easily create plenty of accounts and continue with trolling and scamming, and why can they do it? Because the administrator or owner doesn't want to limit the amount of accounts that can be created per ip. Also, to create an account you don't even need to insert a real email address where you will receive a confirmation of signup email.  Of course this forum will be full of clowns and fools like it is already, how can you guys be so surprised.....

And if we take a look at your signature then we can see the reason why this has happened.

People get paid to post "crap" so how surprising is it that the forum no longer has anyone posting anything of value?

It should also be noted that many of the mods also are being paid to post (via "ad-sigs") so even criticising them tends to actually "land you in trouble" (crap that emanates from mods is apparently less stinky).

I for one will not be using the "new forum" as it has become clear that bitcointalk.org only cares about allowing people to earn money from ad-sig campaigns (it cares nothing for the quality of posts).

It is funny that even people like DannyHamilton (who have put up with the ad-sig crap for over a year by creating huge ignore lists) are starting to post less and less (I guess it wears everyone down eventually).

I can only assume that this forum is either corrupted or retarded as it seems the very purpose of it now is to allow idiots to earn money from posting rubbish (it seems that the forum's credo now is that "being popular is all that matters").

Anyway - no need for you mods to worry about me as I won't be joining your new forum (enjoy your ad-sig rewards and the ad-sig posts).

Getting rid of the newbie jail was a terrible idea, and, IMO, the point when these forums accelerated their decline in quality.

Newbie jail causes a huge amount of issues. People complain about removing newbie jail, but it really didn't do much to prevent spam. The issue with spam doesn't come from genuine newbies, it comes from account farmers. If you are managing 100 accounts, a 3 hour wait means very little to you. If you are trying to learn about Bitcoin as a genuine newbie, a 3 hour wait can do enough to convince you its not worth looking into. If newbie jail was reimplemented this second, the forum would indeed get better, for 3 hours that is, then the waves of accounts hitting the boards would be the same as it was before. In addition, whitelisting is a huge drain on staff resources.

If you report one spammer, all of their accounts get banned.

I will agree here. I have been here since mid 2011. towards 2012 to 2013 was good times and last 2 years on here with the amount of scams happening and people getting away with it and nothing being done to prevent future scams happening, seems not a lot gets done. Trolls do get it from time to time, but a lot of the time you just see some massive arguments and flaming back and forth in topics should not be allowed and closed and posts censored. The amount of things I have seen over the years on here is a shock and a lot of it still continues today. Rid the spam, scams, multi accounting and perm banning and suspending or blocking ips and then some things would be a lot better here.

This is a very fair point, and I really can't argue with it. Thanks for that perspective that I hadn't considered before.

Now if we could only do something about the shitposters and obvious shills that degrade the signal:noise ratio; I've learned that reporting such posts in the "popular and controversial" threads is largely futile - moderators letting obvious shitposters paint threads assorted shades of brown and yellow...
