i love oldschool html websites, that easily render even on old hardware.
nothing worse than a cluttered css monster with lots of ajax.
who else thinks the same?

I dont hate it.
But i do understand your point, i like old computers/pda/phones ect. Because to me they are built to last way longer then these new cheap part crap computers/tablets/phones - i have some crazy gadgets that i can install linux and stuff, but there is no point because it has so low ram and even sites will make it slow as hack.
But thats technology for us, since its evolving and spreading more then the black death in Europe - so now technology business owners just make new tablets/netbook just to make some money and people who buy it have to ether throw it out or sell for 1/10 the price so they can upgrade there machines and the process starts all over again 3 months later :-/

It's just general SGML/XML bloat. HTML5 is supposed to get around this issue and for a while it will be fine until something else comes a long and there is another, partly incompatible format.
Interestingly the trend goes in the direction that html is just a container for javascript and the rest is handled via json/websockets.

I don't hate Web 2.0, I hate those who abuse it until it looks like the Vegas strip of programming. When people understand that they can have a smooth, fully interactive site without having a modal window fly up and across every five seconds and a dancing advertisement next to the text, Web 2.0 is very welcoming. Otherwise you end up with something like this. (I dub thee: Japanese Tentacle Animated GIF Eye Rape) Or this. (Warning: May cause seizures, sudden explosive bowel movements, temporary blindness, permanent blindness, urges to throw computer out of nearest window, more seizures, stomach cramps, coma, death, reincarnation then another painful death, apocalyptic tendencies) I understand this site isn't Web 2.0, but I'm too lazy to find a truly terrible Web 2.0 site. |

The thing that pisses me off the most about web2.0 sites is when they don't allow "open in new tab". I use that all the time.
If I had a time machine I'd go back in time and stop the two biggest mistakes in web browsers: cookies and the damn back button. Its a WEB, not a line.

I'm a bit torn here.
The 1.0 stateless model fits better with the browser navigation model. Wikipedia (for the consumer) is the power app for this.
Web 2.0 allows complex applications to run completely in the browser inside one webpage. Then you don't need to be concerned with problems of storing state information in sessions on the server alongside other users and all the bugs and security problems that can come with it. Most information can be kept client-side, just like in the old age of desktop apps.
