Hello! My Graphics card supports OCL and I would like to use it to speed up my vanitygen. However when I try to use the OCL gen instead of the default, it says this.
http://a.1339.cf/didxbpe.png
For some reason it assumes my cpu is also capable of OCL. It lists the devices capable but I don't know how to select one. (and yes I have tried typing 0)
Any help for a command prompt and vanity gen noob?
edit: and yes, I know CherryMX isn't a viable address, it was just an example since I didn't want to reveal my choice Tongue

For exactly problems like that i use online vanitygen. I know offline generation is better but harder and more problematic.
Good luck in solving this, maybe video card is not compatibile?

Using an online vanitygen definitely seems risky.. Since it displays the Private key and all..

Run vanitygen.exe --help to see all commands.

Use -D command. oclvanitygen.exe -D 0:0 0:1 1CherryMX.

Radeon HD 5770, 58x0, 59xx series are the best address generators for the money, and they work with the stock client when using ATI Catalyst 11.11 driver (after cleaning up files left behind by newer versions of the driver)

The vanitygen client has command-line options -p for platform (if you have multiple versions of OpenCL installed), and -d for device to pick which physical CPU/GPU to run on. It also has a help option.

Thank you so much! CPU time was 15 Days for 50%, OCL time is only 6 Hours for 50%!

1m Keys per second on CPU, 25 Million per second on OCL! Cheesy

If the service does it right there's no risk to the user. They can use a method called "split key generation"  where the user generates part of the private key (which they keep a secret), and then the party doing the actual generating of the vanity address generates the other part of the private key. When the two private keys are put together the user receives their vanity address securely, and the party generating the address has no way to access the vanity address.
