I will be using it for PC gaming, emails, browsing, OS updates, mining, software updates, things of this sort, gaming is the most important thing as pings are very important.
I will come back with my questions with what is the best vpn service after I find out if they are slow or not.

Traditionally VPN services are slower than your internet connection because it relays the request to a second server before going to it's intended destination.

A vpn for low latency applications like egoshooter games is useless in the most cases. Of course there are fast vpn connections depending pretty much on the host and how far the server is from your location and the final server. So if youre in the us and take a european vpn, the connection to a us server would go over europe which is a decent distance. Im resident in europe, i have had us vpn connections which allowed to dl with arround 1mbs, much enough for youtube videos etc but pings almost always above 140ms. A VPN server next to your location, considered their hardware is ok could come witha minimal performce decrease.

No, VPN per se aren't slow. You just need to setup one yourself that is on a server near to you (<20ms) and tweak it a bit. For my case the VPN makes my internet faster (better connected at dc rather than the provider backbone).
Certanly, if you use a server that is 100ms from you and overloaded, you aren't going to go far.

Check out AirVPN. Excellent speeds, 5 servers in the United States, and they accept bitcoin. You can port forward through their client, no logs are kept. Speed takes a small hit, as will any VPS but it's very minor compared to some others I've tried.

Have you tried a virtual cloud server? For example a windows server would allow you to use remote desktop.
You can then run your apps from the server but view them as they are running on your local.

Why would you game through a vpn, why would you need to hide the traffic?
I'm using private internet access vpn for torrents and to gain access to US netflix and pandora, I'm able to max out my 50mb cable connection connected to a vpn in europe when I'm torrenting.
