I don't understand what the message is these people are trying to prove. Campaigning for more respect(?) to the black community is fine and dandy, but going about it by starting riots and hijacking events does not get people to join your cause. It just makes everyone involved look bad, and leaves a bad taste in the public's mouth.

Bernie Sanders is now effectively a hostage of #BlackLivesMatter

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. A large, well attended Bernie Sanders rally was shut down entirely by a handful of Black Lives Matter protesters.

This time it happened in Seattle when Sander’s portion of the first of two events in the area was closed down before it had even begun. A long slate of speakers at Westlake Park led up to the big event, where the self-described socialist was to be the keynote speaker in front of one of his now familiar, big crowds. But alas, it was not to be. (Washington Post)

Shortly after he took stage, a small group of protesters from a Seattle chapter of Black Lives Matter took the microphone and demanded that the crowd hold Sanders “accountable” for not doing enough, in their view, to address police brutality and other issues on the group’s agenda.

After sharing a few local grievances with the crowd, including school disparities and gentrification in Seattle, the protesters asked for a period of silence to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown being shot and killed during a confrontation with a police officer in Ferguson, Mo.

Event organizers allowed the period of silence, as some in the large crowd booed and shouted for the protesters to leave the stage. Afterward, Marissa Janae Johnson, who identified herself as a leader of the Black Lives Matter chapter in Seattle, asked the crowd to “join us now in holding Bernie Sanders accountable for his actions.” She motioned for Sanders to join her at the microphone.

We’ll get to why this is significant in a moment, but the important thing to note here is that after the events described above, there was a “frantic conversation” between Sanders and his staff and then he fled the stage. He greeted some people in the crowd (who were clearly angry that the protesters had shut down his event) and then he left.

Sanders’ next event went much better, scoring perhaps his largest crowd of the campaign yet at roughly 15,000, but he made it obvious that the message had been received loud and clear. (CNN)

Though he did not directly address the earlier disturbance, Sanders cast himself as a lifelong fighter for civil rights.

“No President,” he said, “will fight harder to end the stain of racism in this country and reform our criminal justice system. Period.”…

Sanders was introduced by a series of speakers, nearly all of whom mentioned Black Lives Matters.

“Sen. Sanders knows, as do I, that Black Lives Matter,” state Rep. Luis Moscoso said. “Racial inequality is as serious as economic inequality. No one should be dehumanized by their race.”…

Sanders’ campaign also announced Saturday that Symone D. Sanders, an African-American woman, has been hired as its national press secretary.

This is truly remarkable. At this point, Bernie Sanders has essentially surrendered his campaign to a group of protesters. He has now twice been driven from his own stage. At the first event, the candidate apparently was part of a scheduled event where all the proper permits were obtained and the rules were followed. But as soon as he arrived at the podium he allowed someone with no scheduled access to the facilities to physically take the microphone away from him, change the agenda to include a moment of silence and then berate him. In response he fled the scene.

The Black Lives Matter arm of the SJW is successfully performing like a small pack of wolves who have found the weak bison in the herd. They have learned that Sanders has a weak team and no stomach for a confrontation and can be bullied into silence as they advance their agenda. Sanders had a huge crowd at the first event who were obviously there to see and hear him and were disgruntled when he was denied the chance to speak. Yet he let them down and ran away from a confrontation with a few agitators. This is a leader? This is what inspires a nation to follow you into the future?

The agenda at the second, larger event speaks volumes also. Sanders came with his own program of topics, wishing to speak about the the anniversary of Social Security, the minimum wage, family leave and programs to “improve the lot of the working class.” Yet he had to highlight his new National Press Secretary and make absolutely sure everyone knew she was black. Then, each and every speaker – including the Senator – had to mouth the catch phrase “black lives matter” over and over just to make sure that his own event wasn’t shut down by malcontents.

Bernie Sanders has demonstrated that he can’t even lead one of his own rallies, say nothing of the nation. He is currently little more than a hostage to a small group of activists who, spotting a target who can easily be bullied, are following him from event to event and dictating his behavior. If you try that at a Chris Christie rally you are told to sit down and shut up. When Sanders comes to town you can kick him around like a tin can. And now that the precedent has been set, it will be all the harder for Bernie to regain control of his message. It’s a sad spectacle to behold.

Brave Sir Bernie ran away.
Bravely ran away, away.
When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes Brave Sir Bernie turned about
He gallantly chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat.
Oh bravest of the brave, Sir Bernie.

What has Bernie Sanders done to specifically get in the way of the black lives matter initiative? Is he a specific target or just an easy target? I haven't heard about this in the news, so forgive me if it's really common knowledge.

Any insight anyone can share about why this guy is in the BLM crosshairs? Why not anyone else?

Thanks

Then more startling information came out concerning Marissa Johnson, the main agitator who berated Bernie for being a racist. According to her own Facebook profile she was a huge Tea Party supporter and had supported Sarah Palin in her 2008 Vice Presidential candidacy.

While none of that necessarily qualifies her as being a troll, or as some on the internet have accused an operative who is just trying to delegitimize the Sanders campaign. It is very possible that Johnson was a staunch Tea Party supporter in 2008 and has now changed her political persuasion to more closely mirror that of Bernie Sanders or Martin O’Malley. Eight years are a long time for an individual to reflect upon politics and their effects in the real world.

Although it is quite disquieting when you dig deeper into the facts. The Facebook page and social media presence of Johnson’s faction BLM Seattle did not exist until the day of the rally. Two hours after the interruption her Facebook page had been live for less than 24 hours and had garnered less than 50 followers. Again, this may all relate back to poor planning and nothing nefarious, but it is certainly not indicative of someone attempting to achieve legitimacy within the political spectrum.

Johnson is also a member of a group called Outside Agitators 206, a movement within the larger Black Lives Matter movement, based out of Seattle. Unfortunately, they don’t appear to hold the same goals as the larger movement and actually made a public statement declaring their intent was to “declare war on the Democratic Party“. The full statement reads

To succeed, the Black Lives Matter Movement must transform the politics of Black America. By definition, that means declaring war on the Democratic Party, and forcing Black politicians and activists to choose between the Party and the people’s struggle.

As usual, the Democrats will try to make Black people more angry at the terminally racist Republican Party than at the police and local administration of their (typically) Democrat-run city. Hillary Clinton is already making noises of empathy with Blacks suffering under the urban police state. However, the Black Lives Matter movement has no institutional stake in the victory of either party, but is, in fact, locked in mortal political struggle with other Black people in the Democratic Party. These Black Democrats will insist on a truce, a cessation of agitation against national or local Democrats, until after the election.
The inherent divisiveness in that message leads one to continue to question whether or not the interruption on the stage was actually aimed at pushing forward the Black Lives Matter mantra, or whether it was done for the purposes of waging war against the Democratic Party. Those two end-goals do not seem to be in congruence with one another and until a public statement is brought forward by the Black Lives Matter movement concerning the dichotomy of both organizations there will continue to be controversy over the incident in Seattle.

It has already created a lot of friction and agitation on social media, with people choosing sides from different camps. It appears the liberal politics has a chasm in their support or condemnation of this last outbreak to come after the Sanders campaign, some of it based on racial lines while others are standing firm on ideological and political lines, such as this video posted to YouTube by a Sanders supporter which has since gone viral.

Now the focus turns to Marissa Jenae Johnson — the woman who grabbed the mic from Sanders — and story gets downright weird and confusing.

The Internet is awash in conspiracy theories on Johnson’s motives: She’s a a paid operative from the Hillary camp sent to sow turmoil among Sanders supporters; she’s actually a Sarah Palin supporter (a cursory examination of the comment thread on the Facebook post where this originated, reveals that Johnson was referring to her early political leanings in high school which have since changed); she’s a conservative Christian who supports Sarah Palin (it’s true that she spouts some pretty nutty religious rhetoric on social media — she’s definitely a devout Christian of some sort — but there is no evidence that she is a “conservative” Christian).

Conspiracy theories aside, Johnson’s affiliation with the Black Lives Matter movement is questionable.

According to a group familiar with BLM operations on the ground in Seattle, Johnson and fellow protester Mara Jacqueline are “opportunists” from a group called Outside Agitators 206 who co-opted the BLM label — an easy thing to do considering that BLM is essentially a leaderless movement.

Feel The Bern: Sanders’ Unveils New Racial Justice Platform Wins Praise From Black Lives Matter Activists…

After activists from the Black Lives Matter movement repeatedly disrupted speeches by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) over the past few weeks, the popular and populist presidential candidate released a comprehensive racial justice platform and hired a young racial justice activist as his national press secretary.

The platform, which has won praise from several prominent voices in the Black Lives Matter movement, focuses on different forms of violence against people of color in the United States: physical violence from law enforcement and extremist vigilantes, the political violence of voter suppression, the legal violence of the War on Drugs and mass incarceration, and the economic violence of crushing poverty. Sanders lays out several proposals to address each form of violence, from passing “ban the box” laws to prevent hiring discrimination against people with criminal records, to outlawing for-profit prisons, to restoring the gutted protections in the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Though Sanders has been involved in civil rights work since his college days, he has come under pressure from black activists since launching his bid for president. Having represented the overwhelmingly white state of Vermont for most of his life, Sanders has often struggled to specifically address racial justice issues with the urgency the movement is demanding — an urgency fueled by the fact that an unarmed black person has been killed by police, on average, every nine days this year.

Who would want such a coward as president? Facing putin? Trading with china? If you are afraid of people you agree with, where are you going to hide facing people who hate you?

That video is telling.

Bernie Sanders apologizes to #BlackLivesMatter group holding his campaign hostage “I Apologize It Took Our Campaign So Long”

After protests twice derailed campaign events in recent weeks, the Bernie Sanders campaign has asked to meet with Black Lives Matter activists in Washington.

In an email obtained by BuzzFeed News, the campaign’s African-American outreach director, Marcus Ferrell, told a group of activists that Sanders wanted a more formal interaction. As a sitting U.S. senator, the meeting could be arranged as a means of “possibly introducing legislation and making a constitutional change. We would like to know what YOU would like to see happen.”

Campaigns are rushing to curry favor with Black Lives Matter activists, whose public actions confronting Sanders twice disrupted the campaign, forcing Sanders to more forcefully voice his support of the movement. He has also since announced Symone Sanders, who is a young black woman, as his national press secretary; she was hired after she met with the senator about the activism and criminal justice. Bernie Sanders has also released a comprehensive racial justice platform, referenced by Ferrell in the email.
