With malware getting spammed lately, it's not unsurprising to hear that some unfortunate folks have been exploited.

Understanding that moderators are not constantly watching these forums, and able to quickly response to "emergencies", is there some mailing list the administration might consider setting up for trusted forums users, with the aim to mitigate the spread of any malware ?

It could be set up with strict rules such as "Contact this email address frivolously and you're going to get a temp ban", and additionally secured with white-listed addresses.

 Food for thought.

I suppose you could just PM a global or admin or just wait for the reports to get handled when they come online, but I think promoting more staff to Globals or giving them the power to ban these types of users would go a long way.

Perhaps we could have some "soft-mods" that can only remove post containing links from fairly new users?

It's starting to be a problem to have those 0.5 free btc ads everywhere, someone said that it does contain malware/trojan behind it.

these users are affected with malware which do these kind of post! pretty sure of that.
it is not a bot advertising malware. (actually it is, but the bot doesnt register new accounts to do so, but via already infected members)

There's plenty of mods and patrollers that can nuke newbs and those usually get taken care of within minutes, it's the non-newbs like this guy and the others that get infected that become problematic. If some of the more active mods were promoted to Globals or given some power to ban they would likely be handled very quickly.

I wonder how these old accounts got compromised and started posting malware? It can cause huge problems if these accounts target the newbies who don't know much about these kind of sites.

Another question, what does nuke mean? I've seen it plenty of times in the modlog. Until now, I'm not sure what it does to the "nuked" user.

They get infected by downloading the crap from the links, which then steals their coins and infects their accounts to spam more of the same which then effect more accounts. Nuke is just banning and removing all a users posts.

They also sometimes get infected after a major hack as some of the older accounts are unused and with weak passwords, easy to crack when you have the password hashes. Nuking also bans the IP (not a blacklist though, it's a bit more complicated, see my recent post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1150247.msg12115248#msg12115248).

Okay I see now. Isn't there an option to disable links first before getting verified by a mod or any staff? In that way, infecting other users will be lessened, though the time consumed on checking the website will be too long for a staff or a mod, but that could solve some of the problems.

Nuke is just banning and removing all a users posts.

Admins can but users who get nuked are usually only those that deserve it - spam bots etc. Anyone over a newb can't get nuked unless an admin does it but I've never heard of that happening (they just get banned).

Yep, never even heard of a member getting nuked because of spamming, I only see threads in the meta section for banned accounts. Also, it would be pointless to nuke higher rank members because their post count won't reflect to the activity they attained.

EDIT: Last question, because we talk about bans, if an account got perma-banned, is there any way to recover the account or is there any way to lift the ban?

(If I can say my opinion).

I think it is only a question about 'time' ... the admins can change their idea after a period.

I just happened to stumbled upon this thread/post. I just notified the mods concerning him, my only 11/12th time in bothering them, in which upon doing such, seeing that for reason(s) I have an 84% rating. Go fuck yourselves, mods.  Wink Wink Wink

I actually had this idea when the fastminer/mining.ml spam started to become more frequent. After seeing this topic I actually went and implemented such a system for calling moderators. It only sends notifications to me for now, but other moderators are free to enroll. Using the system requires you to be a staff (to prevent abuse), but I can open the system up to other trusted users in the future.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

It was apparently handled already. Can't seem to see more spamming on the recent posts.

As for the notification system, I am aware that I'm not trusted, but I wouldn't mind being part of it as I've been reporting quite a few of these spam guys.
