Probably the seller is a member here and is well aware of the value.

He's just not desperate to sell and trying to catch some less informed buyer with too much btc.

These are rare after all.

Rarity alone does not make the case for obscene prices, save for a very few examples over in the "real" coin collecting world.

The 2011 error coin is by no means rare, it is one of the largest mintage numbers for Cas coins, yet it sells consistently for a higher premium per coin than the 25BTC, which is indeed a lower mintage.  There's just not as much love for the 25BTC than there is for the errors, or for most of the rest of the series for that matter.

The market for a 25BTC Cas is roughly 26-28BTC at the moment.  Any user frequenting these forums is probably aware of that.

That user is just looking for a sucker who knows nothing about them and has money burning a hole in their pockets.

eBay seems to be full of suckers and market prices on eBay is much less transparent then it is on here because of how easy it is to shill bid on your own auctions.

Edit: he was holding the coin with his fingers Huh

Coin dealers do the same thing on the edges...I also have handled coins that way. Just wash your hands before touching them and it does not leave any marks.

^^^ Yep... the majority of coin graders will also use their fingers and not cotton gloves.

Cotton gloves, while keeping the oils away from coins, also happen to reduce tactile feel and increase the risk of dropping the coin or fumbling around with it more.  Experienced handlers, such as graders and most coin professionals, will pick up and hold coins from the edges.  If properly done, there is no worse for wear and no oils will get onto the coin, and no fingerprints will be left in the main fields.

I prefer finger cots http://www.amazon.com/Protective-Latex-Tissue-Finger-Medium/dp/B003VPYPJ8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1439237613&sr=8-8&keywords=finger+cots as they protect the coin from oil and debris while maintaining grip and tactile feel with your fingertips.

Now, back on topic...

LOL no way I am using condoms on my fingers for a coin. Anyone who bought a coin from me probably had the sides touched as I removed from air tites and placed into mylar flips for grading  Kiss

Isn't gold immune to fingerprints? Fingerprints cause corrosion on other metals, but not gold, right?

Whoever the seller is is a fuckin' amateur.

Here's the real deal - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Casascius-5BTC-Series-1-coin-fully-loaded-w-CoA-and-coin-capsule-not-Lealana-/221836951357?hash=item33a6833f3d

It's been pretty consistently up for sale for over 18 months. What the hell is wrong with people? Don't they recognise a bargain when they see it?

Lol, I found that listing a while ago. Offered to sell him one for half what he was asking and he flat declined. Not even a counter offer. Clearly sucker-hunting
