The 20 coins list will be dynamic in time - if a coin gets enough popularity and/or volume it will be added.
The poll will just help to kickstart this effort, the coins will be added/removed dynamically based on the above factors...

If you want a not listed coin, post here and we will see what can be done - I won't take into consideration newbies accounts.
GRC belongs in the list, I believe. http://www.gridcoin.us/

^ why do you need to create 3 new accounts here to spam ETH blows my mind...
Yes i am new here, but that is my only account! and i believe in eth and few more coins. Btc was the first one, but not the only one which will be in use in future. nxt and xrp cc (cryptocurrency) could also be good in future imo Whats so special about gridcoin?

As per OP, not going to answer that question here. But for starters, you can read the op on GRC's thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=324118.0

Just pick them by Trading Volume.
I completely agree. That's actually what I do here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=927144Right now, there are actually only 10 coins with decent volume. BTC, LTC, DASH, DOGE, POT, NMC, BTS, ANC, XMR, XRP. You should forget the voting, and just go with these coins. (My post is actually unnecessarily complicated. I look at 2 factors -- coins that are not too new, and coins with decent volume. However, I could have just looked at coins with decent volume. All of them are not too new.)

I am voting for the last 3 coins on my list. Other people will vote for the more popular coins anyway. ANC, XMR, XRP. But again, forget the poll, and just go by the volume. See my post.

I use coinmarketcap and coincap to sort by volume too - the 'old' and decent in volume one are already known and will probably take the first 10-15 places in the list. Problem is there are 'forgotten' coins who suddenly awake and I want to be a bit flexible to include some more coins in the list so I can catch them too. For example you mention ANC which is an old one but it's volume (on the two sites I mentioned above) sucks - should I include it or not? This poll will help a bit. I already have my 10-15 top picks, I just wanna give people & the market a chance to be heard some more so maybe I can be more objective on my picks...

I see you did a great job on you thread - what are the top 20 in your list? I think it is very probable to use your analysis but maybe run the poll anyway so we have some second thought on newcomers (like ETH).

The ultimate poll is trading volume.
I get what you are saying about not missing forgotten coins. A poll will not help with that because a new coin can become important after the poll closes. You basically have to update your list of coins every now and then. Running polls all the time is cumbersome and not accurate. Looking at the volume is a lot easier.
Having an index with a list of coins that's changing might seem tricky but it's really not. All the stock indices are made from lists that are changing over time too. Basically, you can calculate the daily percent change for each coin on the list, then average that across coins. That should keep your index continuous even as you swap coins in and out of the list.
An important issue in developing my list was how I calculated the volume. All the websites I could find, and the ones you mention, just give one day volume. That's worthless. Lots of shit coins can have a huge volume day. Lots of better coins can have a low volume day, because, after all, the alt coin market is not that liquid. One day volume is meaningless.
What I do is look at volume over the past month. The exact period does not matter. What matters is that you have to take more than one day into account.
My list does not have a preset number of coins. I did not set out to make a list of 10 coins. I set out to make a list of coins with a daily volume of $10k or more. Right now, that happens to be 10 coins. Tomorrow, it could be more or less. If a low volume coin starts gaining volume, you can add it to your list. So I don't have a "top 20".
When I last updated my list, which was a couple of weeks ago, ANC had a volume of $23,700 per day. Yes, it's pretty low, but my cutoff of $10k per day was low too.
