The Sinai Province of the Islamic State (Isis) has claimed to have beheaded a Croatian hostage in Egypt.

The terrorist group posted a picture of dead hostage Tomislav Salopek, with his head cut off on top of his back and wearing a beige jumpsuit similar to the one he had worn in a previous video, according to SITE Intelligence Group.

The employee of geoscience company CGG was abducted on 22 July. A caption on the image said Salopek was killed "for his country's participation in the war against the Islamic State".

A video released by IS-linked Twitter accounts showed the 30-year-old Croatian wearing a yellow jumpsuit and kneeling beside a masked militant.

In it, the militant makes a threat saying Salopek will be executed if the Egyptian government does not release "Muslim women arrested in Egyptian prisons". The term refers to female Islamist prisoners jailed in a government crackdown following the 2013 military coup that ousted Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Morsi.

Already the tourism sector in Egypt is reeling from the earlier ISIS attacks on Giza. The murder of the Western hostage will further put away the European tourists. Considering the fact that millions of Egyptians depend upon the tourist revenue for their livelihoods, this can in turn spark riots, just like the ones which we are witnessing in Venezuela right now.

This is indeed news that shocked the whole of Croatia.
Many people these days prayed for him in all the churches, Croatian politicians was trying to help, but this sad tragedy could not be avoided.
Many Croats still working in Egypt and other Arab countries, and now they are all in fear for their safety and life.
These days it's really become unsafe and dangerous to travel anywhere.
This poor man just wanted to find a job and feed his family and ended so tragically.

Daniel, tens of thousands of Westerners are working in Egypt, and they face no major threats from the ISIS or any other terrorist group. But in this particular case, the victim was working in a very dangerous area (Northern Sinai), without adequate security. His employers (Compagnie Générale de Géophysique) are to be blamed. They ignored the warnings from the government agencies, and then after the victim was taken hostage, they refused to pay the ransom.
