I think investigations are still ongoing and he isn't fully on jail now. Apparently he will be on jail for at least 7 years, which is nothing compared to what would he have gotten in US. He will leave in 7 years and by then the Bitcoins he has stored (which im sure he has undetected BTC stored somewhere) will be worth millions.
7 years is still better than nothing Im pretty sure 7 years is enough for the prisoners to bully the crap out of him But i agree with you, he should stay there longer 7 years is just a petty punishment for someone who let $500m dollars be lost in the void. If he was jailed in the US, I doubt that he‘ll be free in 20 years. There is serious money involved here. That's why i said he said should stay longer Are there anything the bitcoin community could do to make him stay in jail longer ? Maybe make an online petition for him to stay longer in jail or something like that Make a petition for him to be trialled in the US? Considering that most victims were there. But idk, Mt. Gox was Japan-based so he should chill there first and taste hell in US after 7 years.

Apparently Japan does not do bail. He's in a cage.
Lol cage. Does he have his cats with him? Probably no, japan prisons are harsh but he won't be bullied at least. Here is the short video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiw2NULDjKMI'm sure that Mark Karpeles will be in the apple pie factory, with his eight-hour shift consisting of peeling half an apple and passing it on to the next guy to peel the remaining half, all the while the smell of delicious apple pies will permeate the room, where he'll never taste the fruits of his labor. Hopefully we get to see a video of Karpeles marching with a guard counting ichi ni ichi ni with a megaphone on his face.

It is such a high profile case and we hear nothing from the press on that side. They are quick to jump on news, when the puppet masters wants them to discredit and shill Bitcoin. I guess it is old news for the so-called CEO of Bitcoin to be in jail. Let's make some phone calls or send some mail and see what pop out.

He is an awful man, a real low life & he deserves jail time imo. 7 yests is a decent stretch though to be fair. People are moaning about the length of his sentence but I think 7 years is a pretty long time if you think about it.
I'm not sticking up for him, he's a real piece of shit but 7 years is pretty long, did people expect longer?
He didn't kill anybody or rape someone, I think 7 years is a good, long stretch. Hopefully he doesn't get out early on good behaviour, I'm not sure what the rules are in Japan for that?

I'd like to thank Mark for crashing the bitcoin price so that us latecomers could get in at decent prices. Plus he taught us that we should only trust distributed exchanges. The next 7 years will fly by in the blink of an eye, just pretend you are at college. You are still young. You still have a full fun life ahead of you filled with endless sunny sandy bikini clad beaches, healthy tropical food, and the tastiest feminines you can't find on vporn. Thank you for enlightening the world, my Budda-like friend. Because, the fact is, that without this particular expensive lesson that you taught us, we might not understand the true importance of only supporting free and secure public decentralized crypto exchanges over privately owned centralized trading ledgers. The Bitcoin community salutes you sir. Spoken as a true Anarchist Yes it's true, he opened our eyes to the dangers of privately owned exchanges, but he also managed to dump anonymity or the little we had, down the drain of over regulation. We would have been well on our way to global mainstream adoption, if it was not for this grasshole. I wonder how the people who acctually lost loads of money would feel about this statement. Let's be sensitive to the loss of others, you might be next. {You did say, you are a latecomer, so I assume you lost nothing in the MtGox fiasko}

As of Sept. 11th he is back in jail, maybe for up to 2 more weeks.
I heard it from a primary (err... secondary) source - a friend of a global systems security analyst - that Karpeles was doomed as early as way back in July. I just didn't believe him at the time since there was no chatter about it on this forum. But then it turned out he was right. Apparently Japan's case against Karpeles is air-tight and he will indeed get the punishment a lot of people think he deserves.
Plus I heard Japanese prisons absolutely suck. No need to extradite him to the U.S., as Japan would not do that anyway.

As you said, majority of the people that lost their money are from the US and they will not let this slide so easy. I don't think that he has a nice future whatsoever since he's pretty much on the radar of two countries and I think that both of these countries will make him pay!

I think the Japanese will not fuck around and will keep him in jail, he has made a lot of people lose tons of money, sometimes near to a lifetime of savings, I think he deserves several years in prison to think about it. I don't think we have to hope for USA to jump in, the Japanese should deal with it correctly, from what i've heard they don't play around.

Nice picture, I doubt he is getting his starbucks any time soon. Someone add a milkshake. On a side note, the guy use to rent a 15k apartment, really think he will be housed in the general population with his lawyers?

if he's found guilty, after served his time and kicked out country back to france he will have to serve another sentence in france, according to this According to a joint report by Cyrus Farivar of Ars Technica and Pierre Alonso of Le Monde, Karpelès was found guilty of fraud when he was tried in absentia in France in 2010. He also admitted to having "pirated" a server to French authorities. He was sentenced to a year in jail but has not yet served his sentence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Karpel%C3%A8salso the U.S will no doubt want to extradite him due to Americans using the platform and losing shitloads of cash his pudgy white ass could be seeing some action on different continents lol

Someone complained, that Mark has dropped the price. In fact he was the one driving the price up to 1200$ with his bot... As a sidenote, I find it interesting that a lot of medias (+ people here) are talking about the 1200$ price as a reference for the value of Bitcoin, as if the current price was too low and everybody should only wait until the price goes up to its "real" value. edit: Read here about Fuchu: http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-159095.html

You did say, you are a latecomer, so I assume you lost nothing in the MtGox fiasko true, but I did start buying into BTC at $1000 which puts me worse off than anybody who got goxxed for 100% of their unrealized profits. Which brings up another bit of sage investment wisdom that Mark drove home to the crypto community: Don't count your chickens before they hatch That all depends on the amount of money you put in and the amount of bitcoin the others had stored at mtgox. How can you be worse of than someone with 100 btc locked in mtgox? Doesn't matter if they only paid 1 dollar per bitcoin.
