ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — A police officer who killed an unarmed college football player during a suspected burglary at a Texas car dealership was fired Tuesday for making mistakes that the city's police chief said caused a deadly confrontation that put him and other officers in danger.

Arlington officer Brad Miller, 49, could also face criminal charges once police complete their investigation, Police Chief Will Johnson said.

Called to the scene of a suspected burglary early Friday morning, Miller pursued 19-year-old Christian Taylor through the broken glass doors of a car dealership showroom without telling his supervising officer, Johnson said.

Instead of helping to set up a perimeter around the showroom, Miller confronted Taylor and ordered him to get down on the ground, Johnson said. Taylor did not comply. Instead, he began "actively advancing toward Officer Miller," Johnson said.

Just another example of police shooting first and asking questions later. This is just sad while the young man was involved in a crime does it warrant a death sentence. When did cops because judge and jury. What happen to police officers being part of the community as a trusted individual? Maybe it is time to take guns away from them. Body cameras should become law of the land. Hopefully this thug is charged with murder.

Just another Monday morning quarterback with no clue what its like to be in a position that involves life or death situations. Many cop shootings /firefights start with a person who does not comply and then comes at an officer. You don't take chances with criminals that are willing to break numerous laws for seemingly no reason. Department seems to be trying to prevent a riot by firing the cop for a pretty ridiculous reason , which was listed as " entering the building" that the crime was taking place instead of calling the senior officer.

If the young man hadn't broken into a business, vandalized property, and acted stupidly toward police....he would be sleeping at home with mom and dad. Unfortunately that is not what he did,

If you do not want to be confronted by Cops with guns...do not break the law....PERIOD.

And what do you think would happen to the crime rate if LEO'S were disarmed? I can guarantee you, it would't go down. Another progressive idea that makes absolutely no sense.

From the story:
"Miller joined the police department in September and graduated from the city police academy earlier this year."
This can't look good to the Grand Jury. Less than a year on the force, and the first time he draws his gun in the line of duty, he puts 4 bullets into this kid.
He wasn't trying to coordinate with anyone. His partner had his taser drawn, and his Commander had told him not to enter the building. Maybe he could go to bartending school?

Seems to work well in civilized countries. Pretty much the city of Arlington Texas disagrees with many people the officer had no right to use deadly force. If a cops first reaction is to always shoot they should not be carrying fire arms.

No excuse. If they can't do their job then they should not be cops.

Since our liberal female black mayor gave looters permission to destroy parts of the city Baltimore, our murder rate has skyrocketed.

"Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake made a stunning admission Saturday in the aftermath of violent protests over the recent death of Freddie Gray, saying she wanted to give space to those “who wished to destroy.”

If they want to be criminals they should be dead. Same logic.

They are cops not kindergarden teachers. I see a day coming soon when folks catch on to how the lefty media distorts these stories to make cops out of be bad guys. When that happens a deaf ear will be turned to this rhetoric.

Christian Taylor.

If this kid was killed in Chicago the only person who would have known his name is the coroner.

"Maybe it is time to take guns away from them. Body cameras should become law of the land."

It is thinking like this - and a host of other stuff - that makes me want to get as far away from the US as soon as possible. I can't believe people are wanting and willing for our lives to be followed by cameras at every turn, all for the sake of "security" - which the powers that be are exploiting to the fullest and slowly ripping-away all freedoms.

Everyone is comfortable with the idea of 24/7 surveillance until they have it turned on them, it's that simple, I had this argument with someone recently people just don't think about how easily this kind of thing can be turned on them and they use the old "Well if I'm not doing anything wrong nothing will happen to me" bullshit, nah, that doesn't matter to people who have absolute power over others.

you're supposed to shoot burglars what the fuck has the world come to

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

Well, not exactly.  Nobody knows if the guy shot was a burgler, that's why we have people who figure stuff like that out, then a system that metes out punishment.

If the guy was pointing something that looked like a firearm, shooting first was warranted.  As it is it looks more like a situation where tasering would have been adequate and effective.
