they have not explained well how exactly it work, maybe to prevent to reveal their strategy

Probably depends on what he did with those addresses or how he moved coins to and from them. The company seems to be remaining tight-lipped on how they would have done it so could be lies or exaggerations at this point. |

I'm doubting their claims that they could have caught him within days just by blockchain evidence alone, but I guess it depends on how sloppy he was (and we know he wasn't too cautious on various levels). I think tech like this will just make people even more cautious and people will have to make sure they're one step ahead of law enforcement if they don't want to be caught but people who use bitcoin for illicit activity should be vary weary as we know it's not as anonymous as people might think and there are lots of ways you can slip up easily as Ross found out.

i cant understand how they can associate it with a given address, maybe all his plans is to start to scared people about it?
Obviously they will never sayd how they work on it, but hell i think this is not possible.

it is quite interesting, I was curious how to track transactions that he is a criminal and illegal ? it seems to be pretty good it can help keep the use bitcoin from stuff fraud and illegal use

Well with all the pumps and dumps and scams in this field lately, this is what we need badly! I just tead that there are criminals in Netherlands that are asking for ransom in bitcoins, I mean what a hell. This is all we need so the mainstream world can point finger to us. I hope something like this can be successful in the future. P. S. By thinking further, as fast as crypto field is progressing, something like this will be necessary in the future! |

I just tead that there are criminals in Netherlands that are asking for ransom in bitcoins, I mean what a hell. This is all we need so the mainstream world can point finger to us. I hope something like this can be successful in the future. P. S. By thinking further, as fast as crypto field is progressing, something like this will be necessary in the future! Yes i hope so, there are still a lot cyber criminal out there which need to judge, the criminal is will not stop until they have to judge. Still curious about how they method to identify the criminal activity. |

This will all be useless once DarkWallet gets released probably, but if there is a way to know the last time a coin "entered darkwallet so to speak" then whoever entered the coins into darkwallet is probably the criminal and will get investigated.. |

Strange startup. The way I understand it, they intend to make a profitable business selling their findings to the police? I wonder what are the "proprietary sources" they're talking about on their website, but I'm afraid that if it's really good, the FBI will request a free and permanent backdoor to access it at will.

As a starting point, this may help them get some grants. In the future, I think they will ask for some bounty money - if somebody robbed your bitcoins, these guys may be willing to help you for a small fee. |

If what they claim is true then they will not have a shortage of customers, there is enough three letter agencies with big budgets that will gladly throw money their way just so they can invade our privacy even more.
I'm not quite sure what to make of this. This could be a good thing, on the one hand, as there are many cases where something like this is and will be needed to bring scammers/fraudsters to book. On the other hand, not so sure whether I like this as it is just another way in which our privacy is being chipped away at.
Guess one good thing about this is that it will drive innovation even more in the likes of Dark Wallet etc... which can be a good thing but also a bad thing as it can create the impression that bitcoin is going 'underground'.....

Why would they not be able to do it? I mean you can monitor all altcoins if you want to, however software is required if you want to actually do something with that information. I'm not sure exactly how effective it might be. However, the easiest way to get information would be once a suspicious address sends coins to a exchange such as Bitstamp and request information from there. Now, my question is where are the Monero promoters. They should not be able to track people using it, so it can be used to clean your money/hide your tracks.
I did not state that. There are ways of attaining information, such as subpoenas. |

As a starting point, this may help them get some grants. In the future, I think they will ask for some bounty money - if somebody robbed your bitcoins, these guys may be willing to help you for a small fee. Possible, but they need first to prove how good they are. I suggest they explain what happened at MtGox, everybody would talk about it, and they would get instant fame. Can they do it? There's nothing to back up their claims so far. |

The thing is, probably anyone with a lot of money could bribe the exchanges to release personal information on accounts and transactions to try to link up things to people, you can never trust no one. Who knows if this is happening already.

Wouldn't the evidence be inadmissible in court if someone bribed an exchange to release personal transaction information of customers? If it was obtained through a subpoena it would be admissible, but exchanges would never admit they were accepting bribes to release personal information. What use would linking transactions be if the evidence was inadmissible in court? |
