At a time when the world is waking up to the delights of digital currency, a lot of people still remain unaware of the Ecuador’s dinero electrónico. While Bitcoin, Ripple, Litecoin or Peercoin are becoming increasingly popular, it is Ecuador’s dinero electrónico that has taken this small nation by the storm.

This, imho, will be one of the major hurdles for bitcoin mass adoption.

Why should somebody use bitcoin when they can have a coin issued and backed by their own government. Why trust a coin that has no owner instead of one backed by your own government and your local banks.....

Yes, we know and understand why those government issued coins will never be a patch on bitcoin but unfortuanetly the majority of the population will never see it like this.

Only time they will realise that its no different from fiat is when the governments screws that up, as they do with fiat, which is bound to happen further down the road.
