Cool idea from Google, but what is that of chip from 21 inc, a solar miner? Mining with solar power would be a great idea indeed.

Except for the part that it tells you what location receives more sunlight, wouldn't it be equivalent to just mining with solar power, which requires an initial investment, and is expensive even without this knowledge ?

Well Google has been a company in many sectors, with its search engine, email provider, android technology, google glass, world mapping, soft drive in internet, buy Motorola, and many more. Thats why Google become one of the largest companies in the world for now.

They must be factoring in local knowledge of electricity costs too, to be able to tell you your savings.

Mining Bitcoin with Solar Power is much more profitable than using electricity.
Any one already doing this?

I think the equipment for that is more complicated and expensive than electricity, so it will need much more capitals. But, it will give more profit if you use that for long-term mining. The only problem is you have to seek the location which always get sun, which I guess the suitable place is in tropical climate region.

Oo Where do you get that idea from? You realize that you pay the power cost from the electric company directly but the power cost from the solar panel you pay for 10 years in advance? These solare panels are expensive and you need to calculate their costs against it. And mostly you would run better selling the power coming from it to the electric company than using it for mining. I know many bitcoiners thought this is a great idea but you need to weight the power costs over time against the cost for the solar power system.

No.
Mining requires electricity. That electricity should be bought or acquired for the lowest price possible. If solar energy is cheap people should use it! If people who have solar and mine arem't using thrir solar, they're idiots!
Is Google making it cheaper to get solar, a lot cheaper? Probably not... But it's great that they're in the energy game.

Solar Power for a household sure sounds nice. While we are on the topic, why don't we try to power miners using my (non)patented invention: THE MINER BOILER
... I intended to find a picture of a boiler system and just paste a picture of a miner onto the boiler part, but no diagram made the cut. Anyway, two birds dead: power and cooling.
As impractical as this is, I can still entertain the thought of a room of ASICS being fluid cooled into a turbine and powering themselves.

So you install solar panels, which provides some free electricity, but instead of using the savings you make on the electricity bills to pay off the installation and materials you get "free bitcoin mining"? Quite smart...

Solar power for Bitcoin mining is stupid. The payback time on solar is long, and the remaining profitable period of mining is short.

not only you pay ahead but you need to maintin your solar power with the battery that need to be changed after some time, and it's not cheap at all so it isn't much different than paying for electricity, and even if we remove the electricity problem you still need 10 months roi at first assuming diff increase by 4%...
