You open your wallet and send those coins to where you want to, you spend the coins...

You can only "claim" coins if you have the private key of the address.

There are no 'unspent transactions'. There are 'unspent outputs', they are outputs from previous transactions which have not been spent yet.

Once you (well, the owner of the address where they got sent to, that's the one who has the private key of that address) spend them, it becomes a spent output.

Outputs of a transaction are initially unspent outputs, until they are used as the input for another transction, then they are spent outputs.

The balance of an address is the sum of all unspent outputs that were sent to that address.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

'Unspent' means that the coins have been sent to a certain address and that it is still on that address meaning that it has not been sent out again.

If you are the owner of the particular address then you are already in possession of the coins as it's on the address you have. As stated already, to spend those coins you need to have access to the private key of the address. If the address is in your wallet and you have access to the wallet then you will be able to spend those coins.
