for create new paper wallet i choose vanitygen
i create new custom wallet address like 1shanexxxxxx (using command prompt)  after it i use blockchain to import my custom bitcoin address, and i export it to paper wallet 
need more step but i like my way i trust blockchain

That's certainly not a good idea! You are importing private keys into an online wallet to create a paper wallet? This is not secure. If you are using online wallet to get qr code, then use BitAddress.org. Download BitAddress.org and after creating vanity address, open BitAddress.org HTML page and go to 'Wallet details' and enter your private key. Then click 'Print'. Or you can use a simple qr code generator and print it. Don't use an online wallet to create paper wallet.

Hello!

I am new here as you can guess . I want a cold storage that has "reasonable good" security.

There are several sites that has javascript paperwallet generators, which of these are safe? Most of them are open source, hosted at GIT.

Is a paper wallet encrypted with Bip38 safe enough to store on off site backups?

My plan is to start a clean Linux and download a generator and generate a few wallets and print them out.

I'm planning to use my phone as a hot storage device for small amounts, what's your strategy? You are the experts.

According to the "Stay Safe thread" - Don't use bitcoins on rooted phones. So I will avoid that.

Instead consider using Mycelium on your phone. Mycelium has Trezor support so you have security and convenience, just have to carry your Trezor with your phone to send bitcoin.

i personally prefer using an offline linux for storing an offline wallet as my cold storage.
the difference between this way and using a paper wallet is that i can use my bitcoins any time i want without needing to sweep the keys in an online wallet.
i used this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=853288.0 as a reference to make my own custom offline wallet.

That's not it! There many problems. Some of them are:

 • You are importing your private key to an *online* wallet.
 • There is no way you can assure that they *actually* delete private key from their wallet.
 • When you expose private key to internet, there are many plausible attacks.

You can trust Bitaddress.org more than you can trust Blockchain.info. Besides, you are running Bitaddress.org completely offline which is secure than Blockchain.info which is completely online. Just think for yourself. Anyway, I am not compelling you to use Bitaddress.org. You can do what you like. Only thing I say is, what you are doing now is a bad idea. There is a high chance for theft.

Not really. Hardware wallets are less immune to computer viruses but these USB sticks are.

You are not installing anything on your computer. You are creating a live USB.
