I wanted to pass along a potential solution to the ethical issue of JavaScript miners. Create a game, like Sudoku, which pays the user a small amount of BTC (e.g., 0.00000001 BTC) for solving a puzzle or completing a level. The user, in return for being allowed to collect a small amount of BTC, would allow the site to run a JavaScript miner in the background. (The user would be fully aware.) The miner would only be run when the game was being played. Any thoughts?

People would cheat it. And there's no way you can send transactions small enough, or gain enough profit. I've built sudoku solvers myself, it's trivial.

1. get c++ sudoku solver
2. solve sudokus in 10 seconds
3. get 0.00000006 btc in one minute
4. BECOME RICH! (0.0000036 per hour) :p

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Re: Cheating

Cheating could be minimized to the point where it would be negligible. Thus, I would not be terribly concerned about that issue.

Is there currently a limit on how small transactions can be? (For give me, I'm new to Bitcoin.) I was under the impression that transactions can be passed along for free, unless one uses a processing service or seeks priority processing, down to 8 decimal places. Thanks.

I'm not following. Why do you think cheating could not be minimized?

Cheating is like an intellectual game.
At some point you might just end up with a sudoku grid that hardly as readable as a captcha.

Users create accounts. Captcha. Limits on games played per day. Limits on new accounts created by all users in day. Statistical analysis to observe for bot play. There is a point at which the financial rewards for the cheater outweigh the amount of effort required to cheat.

So, as I said before, cheating is minimal in my concerns. The other issue raised by gigitrix could be a problem.

Well, go for it, if you're confident that you can handle these issues it might be a nice opportunity.
