Thanks for doing this review.
I'm really interested in getting a KeepKey so this would be interesting.

Looks really slick, never really have been interested in a hardware wallet but they're getting my attention, especially with Mycelium supporting connecting hardware wallets and spending directly from the phone.

The keepkey looks larger than I expected from those images...but it should be very lightweight, correct?

It is a bit heavier than a trezor but probably only by an ounce or so, it would feel like a cell phone battery or something similar if you kept it in your pocket. I think it is currently for more at home use or laptop use (would fit easily in a laptop bag pocket).
Ah yes, comparable to the average powerbank then, nothing to be too worried about

Thanks for this. I look forward to buying one. It does not appear to have any advantage over Trezor which I use everyday, but looks classy and more satisfying to own. I love Trezor but do not like the cheap plastic feel of it. Wish they had kept the metal case.

slush mentioned on reddit it actually only costs $19 to produce a Trezor, selling price is where it is to recover r and d and cover operating expenses. I suspect a year from now Trezor will cost under $50 and be considered disposable. Break it? Just restore a new one from seed. Or maybe Trezor will come out with a new model that is better than KeepKey.

Trezor sells for $99. At $239 I will not be buying a KeepKey, it may be pretty but it is less functional than a Trezor: you cannot use it with your phone. The Case hardware wallet is only $199.

I have to agree, $239 is quite steep if you ask (even though it looks amazing on that stand). Would be nice if added some more information in this thread, like connecting, signing, etc. I'm sure people would like that.

Considering you could buy two Trezors for $40 less than the KeepKey I do not see this one taking off. Not being able to use with a phone kills it for many people. Once you get past the plastic feel of the Trezor you can appreciate the compact size and light weight, no problem carrying it in your pocket to use with your phone. Just consider Trezor as a disposable hardware wallet:) After all what is important is not the device itself but the 24 word seed.

Well, if you want disposable, you should go with the Ledger Wallet HW.1 as they are only $18 and work on phones as well.

KeepKey is a fork of Trezor but the ability to use it with a wallet on a phone is not here yet. KeepKey only works with their Chrome extension, Electrum and Multibit. Here is a very good thread on reddit discussing relative security of Ledger, Trezor, and KeepKey: https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/3w81k1/securitywise_is_there_really_any_difference/KeepKey is considered more secure than Trezor, with Ledger least secure. The advantage KeepKey has over Trezor is the way recovery is handled as talked about in this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3e6ir3/eli5_how_devices_like_trezor_legder_keepkey_can/Trezor recovery method using 24 words has 80 bits of entropy while KeepKey using 12 words has 111 bits of entropy. The recovery process is so secure the KeepKey developer is using it as a selling point, telling users that you can use the KeepKey when needed then just wipe the device after each use. Recover when needed again. Very interesting.
