It largely depends on your cost of electricity. That alone makes most CPU mining unprofitable (unless the price of the coin skyrockets and/or your electricity is dirt cheap or free). If it's free, mine Monero (XMR).

XMR has loads of miners. Anything else?

Really no point using CPU unless your electricity is free and your equipment, write off.

You don't mine CPU. You just don't...
Faster hashing rates=profit.
CPU=Lazy af.

Hi there, I'm from South Africa.
This means I'm poor, I guess.

You can mine Bytecoin - BCN or Monero - XMR with CPU. personally think that BCN is a good pick, its price is not too high, but it should be rising to at least the double.

take a look at minergate.com or you can try to mine it directly.

I'd be a fool not to hop in here and say it might be worth your while to check out mining DogecoinDark. At the very least it would further decentralize the network, which is good for the fledgling coin Smiley

CPU mining is dominated by botnets so just move on to GPU or give up.

GPU too. Do you think a computer doesn't have GPU? Almost every computer has a graphic card.

I agree with one of the posts above.  XMR or BCN.  For CPU.

And I love how some people tell people that mine with CPUs not to or that you should give up.  I CPU mine daily as well as GPU and ASIC mine.   I mine XMR with CPU and over time the Satoshi that you make does add up.  I take mine and invest in ICOs and sometime double if not triple what I mined.  There for CPU mining can be worth if.  Unless you just plan on mining and selling.   Take the little you get and try the lotto to make a lot.

I hate when people say to give up.

To give you all that think that mining isn't worth it when it comes to CPUs.
I started with only CPU mining.  Even when people said that is wasn't worth it.  I made little satoshi and again invested what i mined.

Today I now sit on over $10k worth of BTC.   And the only investment that I have was The Solar I use to charge my computer.  I turned hardly nothing into something.

So it can be done even with a higher DIFF.  Just wouldn't recommend BTC with CPU.   Takes to long to to earn anything.

OK sorry i went on but I just hate when people say you cant or to give up.

You have to options really: if you go the CPU route you have to mine either Bytecoin (BCN) or Monero (XMR). Those two can be exchanged at www.hitbtc.com I was mining BCN with my CPU and GPU, getting about 0.6$ a day (with a combined hashrate of 680 H/s). If you mine those, you can use Minergate, but make SURE you use the alternative miners like Claymore's CPU and GPU miners, do NOT use the minergate official miner since it's slower.
The other option is to mine Ethereum with a GPU. It's the most profitable one by FAR. I'm getting 1.2$ daily. It's super easy, you just have to download the ETH C++ windows binaries, create and account, let it sync the blockchain(about 600 MB) and create a .bat file the pool address and account where you are going to receive the ether. Best pools are ethpool, supernva, ethereumpool, etc.

GPU mining is the most profitable at the moment, mostly Ethereum and also SHIFT coin. CPU mining is more cost efficient mining CryptoNight coin, than GPU at the moment. I don't know if AXIOM is still profitable to mine via CPU, but was for a moment. Magi is cool, but minimal profit, mining it is mostly supporting its network.
