I told the people around me to buy Bitcoins, when they were 100$. They still thank me for that. Sometimes we laugh about the guys who didn't buy at that point.

I've always been telling to my friends that to invest in bitcoin they should have some crazy high-risk tolerance. I was telling them that since 2013, turns out I wasn't that wrong. I had seen the price climbing from 60$ to 200$ at that period of time. I was surprised to see bitcoin briefly climb on 1100$ but at all times, I'd tell my friends not to buy bitcoins as an investment.
Right now, with the capital controls in Greece, I've assisted several friends of mine by helping them take part in online offers they couldn't have done otherwise because of the limitations in bank services. I think that it's all about how you introduce someone to it. Most of my friends are merely observing. Out of all the people that asked me to tell them some ways to make money with bitcoin, maybe a couple actually managed to do so. No shame as of now, just slight disappointment at the loss of interest by certain friends of mine, but still no financial losses so there's also nothing for me to feel guilty about.

No, I am not ashamed to tell anyone about it, but I don't tell them to invest in it, I tell them to see it as a technology, a way to control your own funds but at the same time I do tell them about the price fluctuations and that they should read more about it and only buy it if they understand what it is. I think telling someone to buy bitcoins because it will sky rocket in future, is not a nice thing, they should be made aware that it could go up or down and they should make their own decision.

I introduced Bitcoin to few of my friends.I cleared the situation that price can go up and down if you want to invest do at your own risk.I just shared news or something new with you.It is up to you now read about it and if you are convinced then can invest.Few of them invested overall they are without profit/loss till now.I am not ashamed of introducing them to Bitcoin.

I got into btc after the big bubble burst. Thankfully, I never got anyone excited enough to buy it but I loved to talk about it (dam it).
Now I just hang my head and mumble something evasive when someone asks me; "How is bitcoin doing these days?"

I always focused on the cool technology side of bitcoin rather than it as an investment. I don't think I ever talked anyone into buying a bitcoin, though a few tried mining.
I'm sorry you had such a poor experience.

I'm not sure why anyone would feel ashamed, but I never recommended it to anyone. I just told them about it and if they wanted to invest then that is their decision.

I started buying bitcoins back in summer of 2013. I was so excited by this new technology and when the price shot up in November, my excitement became contagious. My brother bought a bitcoin for $1000 from me, my mother asked me to buy her one too also at $1000, my niece bought a tenth for $100, my boss bought a few from coinbase, a co-worker bought a few dozen or so until the price dropped to $800. He died about a year later and his family threw away his computer. So those were all lost.
I continued buying in 2014 and then spent a bunch early this year to take care of some things. Anyway, I went over my buys & sales, and discovered that my remaining couple dozen bitcoins cost me around $500 each, despite my use of cost averaging. And I know I did much better than all the people that I know who started buying later than me.
Now I am ashamed to even mention Bitcoin. Everyone I know has lost money and a lot of it. If they ask me about it, I refuse to talk about Bitcoin.
Don't get me wrong, I still love the concept. I am sure the technology will take off in a decade or two. I even use it to send money overseas (using bitpesa) and to fill phones (using bitrefill) all the time.
Anyway, just curious to hear how you all deal with the bitcoin shame from friends & family.
Most of my family still grasps to understand what bitcoin actually is, I am more ashamed that I can't explain it enough so they understand what it is. |

I'm sorry because of your very bad experience with bitcoin. It's not easy when you are so inspired with something and recommend it to your family and friends and later you feel ashamed due to poor performance and loss. I had such experience a few times in my life and now it's really difficult for me to recommend anything to my relatives and friends because they don't trust me anymore. All of these things on the Internet, no matter how good looking, are always risky and we should be very careful before investing any money. I learned that the hard way. The best solution is to never include your friends in such risky things and always try alone. In such way, only you can lose money and friendships are preserved |

I invested 10k euro in btc i have lost 70%. My sister has invested 5k and lost same. My parents together 8k.
I remember i told them "it is impossible it will go down, it can only raise! trust me"
I feel very ashamed.
