Bitcoin Core Help

So I've been trying to download bitcoin core for the last two days and it still is synchronizing.  I know it takes a long time to synchronize, but it's been stuck in the same place like the 1/8th done spot for like the past 12 hours.

I should also let you know I take my laptop everywhere with me to and from work, and over at the girlfriends house, so could it be that wifi changes make it stop synchronizing until I get back home?  Or does it restart up once I connect to any wifi again?

I had a little over 20 GB to start with and that's what it said to have in your computer for it to download correctly, but now my computer is really starting to slow up, so I'm deleting a lot of files off my computer.  Does any one have any suggestions for me as to what I should do?

If I remember correctly, the blockchain is already more then 40 GB in size.  Perhaps you ran out of storage space?

yeah it's 47(nearly 48) to be precise, i doubt you can do anything with only 20 giga remaining, better to go with an spv client if you can't afford a cheap ssd for your laptop

Wow ok... That doesn't make sense that they would say you need 20 GB of free space if you need double that. So where would I go about getting a spv client or ssd for a mac?

something like electrum for a spv client should do good, for the ssd i would choose the samsung evo if you want something good and solid at a low cost

The blockchain size increases every day. In other words, even if you have the required space now, you'll need more later. Hence, you should have a decent amount of space as a buffer.

bitcoin.org needs updating it still says you need 20gb which in fact you need double of that. how do you contact the admin of bitcoin.org is he on this forum?

Why would you want an SSD? SSD just offers more speed while being more expensive for the storage amount. I would go with a larger size hard disk than SSD.

Why would you want an SSD? SSD just offers more speed while being more expensive for the storage amount. I would go with a larger size hard disk than SSD.

it can sync much much faster, there is no comparison, for instance, i can sync in 45 min the whole blockchain, from zero, with my 850 pro, can you do the same with any other normal hdd? i doubt

I am not sure that you want to do that. It seems to me that your computer is quite limited performance wise. I know that it's a great thing to run a full node, but if you are going to sacrifice your computer and your performance, I think it's not worth the trouble.

There are great lite clients, Electrum, Multibit, just go with that and you will be as safe if you keep your computer clean.

For some reason it says that I can't delete bitcoin core because it can't be deleted? WTF?

Also what is your personal favorite lite client that offers the most security in your own opinion? Idk if I can be able to download it though because apparently my computer is stuck not having any more memory due to bitcoin core not being able to be deleted.

For some reason it says that I can't delete bitcoin core because it can't be deleted? WTF?

What is the error about?

Close bitcoin Core completely by checking your taskbar and make sure to exit it if you see it. If you still can't, go to task manager and go to process to stop it.You can try to uninstall it if you installed it using the installer.  Delete Bitcoin Core and go to %appdata% to delete "Bitcoin" folder.

I would prefer multibit as a lite client.

Can't be deleted? Maybe because the client download is still up and running. Try terminating the process first before you delete the whole folder. As for a SPV client, I recommend you to use Electrum. Security is a plus, the interface is newbie-friendly, and the functionalities it offers are what most users need.

I probably can't however, there are several potential problem around this. The CPU speed may be too slow to verify the blocks at a very fast rate, considering that laptop CPUs are very low powered. Your connection matters too, if it's too slow, a fast SSD wouldn't help much either. Again, even though SSD is much faster than HDD, it depends on whether the time taken to synchronize is crucial. After the initial synchronization, any further synchronization should be more or less take the same time.

My advice is to use some wallet with online blockchain, from multibit/multibitHD to ethereum or greenaddress.
But if you want to use the core version you probably can find the full chain in some torrent site, so you can download it much faster.

Blockchains on torrent are usually outdated, after downloading the client would still need to verify every single block. As of Bitcoin Core 0.10.0, headers-first synchronization allows the client to download from multiple nodes hence it is like torrent, it would be fast and less complicated. Multibit actually download the blockchain but only the headers, hence consuming less space.
