Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

It doesn't really matter if China blocks bitcoin.org.  That will block discussion boards, not the client software (hosted at SF, and P2P all over the world).

Were the recent articles are prisoners mining WOW gold correct?  Or were they mining bitcoins?

Considering mining Bitcoins just means sitting out there doing nothing? Or maybe they're nuts enough to have the inmates hash SHA256 by hand xD

With a few hundred thousand prisoners, they could achieve quite a nice Khash/s number Smiley
