Mobilizing to counter the anti-bitcoin lobby

Instead of just waiting around for Bitcoin to be under attack by a coordinated assault of bad press (regarding Silk Road) and the follow up legislation we should go on the 'attack' and start pressing Congressional members that might be sympathetic to Bitcoins ideas of liberty and non-centralized control of the currency.

Seeing as Ron Paul has championed previous causes like this in the past he might be a good place to start.  If we all send him (and perhaps Rand Paul or other like-minded legislators) they might express opinion publicly on this (or better yet, and depending on the support we're able to generate) legislation in this direction protecting Bitcoin.

At least it beats just waiting around for some branch of the government to start shutting down websites like MtGox or Bitcoin.org.  We've seen that governments and the associated powerful interests around them go to great lengths to foist their currency on the public; as the devaluation of it through inflation, fractional reserve banking and bailouts is a hidden tax that, if alternative currencies were available the public, would have an alternative to paying.

Bitcoin is clever and revolutionary but being clever isn't enough.  History has shown that you have to fight.

I am not in any way want to stop you brave fight. I am will describe why. We need at least one state, that does not announce bitcoins outside the law and allow  operation of an exchange with him. Incidentally, this state can become very rich, by the way.  States should fight for that privilege. That is their willings - should their stand on their knees, or they have enough will to fight. Fight not with their arms, but with their wisdom and diplomatic assets.  There is already many good candidates - Greece, Serbia, Horvatia, Slovenia,  - that states are already suffer allot, and we can hope that worldwide attention will not leave them alone in their struggle.  Russia will not stop BTC`s , cose its great instrument to move corrupt money around the glob (let`s face the truce). China will not blok the BTC`s for long time, longer than any other country. They even can hold with some hopes in it. With their believe in long term profit, they will be always mistaken. This error will occur because of their self-confidence, on their analyses. Stupid, - Economics did not experiment  taken in some controlled pool, - It happens in wide open sea of variables. You never can be sure that you will have some advantages, only thing you can count on - somebody will have that advantages, and then hope, that it will be you. Looks i`m to drunk to declare my thoughts clearly. Just ignore them.

You do have to fight, but it's better to fight with the home team advantage.  The political machine is pretty rigged.  Since legislators basically respond to political pressures only, I'd imagine getting more businesses to accept bitcoins would be the best step if you choose to spend your time on this.

You do have to fight, however bringing more government attention to BTC (positive or negative) is not a good idea.  It will only ensure that the government starts the process of attempting to regulate or ban BTC sooner.  A better plan is what AllYourBase mentions, fight by making BTC a widely used currency, which will make it more difficult for the government to regulate or shut down.
