Some newbie questions about pools

Hey guys. I started mining like 10 days ago, but today I decided to join the forum. I have some questions, here they are:
1) I'm currently mining at Deepbit, but I don't like the idea of fees. Which pool you guys suggest me without fees? What about BTC Guild and Bitcoins.lc?
2) I'm mining with my HD 5770 at 186 hashes/s, at a maximum temperature 82 degrees (celsius), is that bad?
3) Which would be the best card for performance/price?

I think its too hot , i have 62oC and i dont risk it and sometimes stop mining and i think deepbit is good , fees are small but so many people mine that basically u will still earn more on a long run ..

2) Use MSI Afterburner for better control over card's fans. Also you can set higher fan speed manually in CCC. Try to keep it under +80C.

Another question: I heard that you get more hashes/s underclocking the GPU memory to 300MHz,
From CCC it seems that I already have it at 300MHz


What could I do to improve the performance? I can't overclock since I already get too high temps.

Be aware that heat tolerance is card-specific. I try never to let my 6990's get over 95ºC.
If I let the fan speed be controlled automatically, they balance out around 99-100ºC, so I have to set the minimum speed on the fans to prevent them from getting that high.

Right now, my biggest fear is fan failure. The fans are not designed to be run at 70%+ forever. I think the designers intended those speeds to be maintained only for a couple of hours at a time...

BTCmine.com might be a better option if you prefer regular payouts. They find blocks in minutes to hours of hours as opposed to hours to days at eligius.

It's at 300 because it's not under heavy load. It will rise just as you try to run the miner.

You won't get higher hashrate with lower memory clock, but you can decrease power consumption and heating a little bit.
~40W less on 5970, for example

Wow thanks [Tycho], I didn't know lowering my memory clock to 300 would save so much power. Back to the drawing board
