Does price go up or down? Depends on if people are buying LTC for good/services. As long as there is growth in the market place the economy will grow. Harder coins to get...still need coins to spend... price goes up because of demand.

The price is going down a bit and the hashrate dropped as well...

Yea, it got me mining again today at 21. Now it looks like it wants to drop to 17. DDoS attack on Litecoinpool, slight price drop, and suddenly Litecoin is boring again. I'd be okay with low price/difficulty for a bit longer. ASICS will most likely change everything though.

The issue is that price won't support that high difficulty, so it should drop down very fast.

The issue is that price won't support that high difficulty, so it should drop down very fast. Assuming people are convinced the current price is long run stable and won't skyrocket when ASICS debut (which I think everyone thinks may happen long term) and thus people don't think LTC is undervalued long run at the moment. People mined BTC in huge numbers while it was a price-loss but we all know how that turned out. People aren't getting into LTC mining unaware of this fact.

Maybe we are losing hash power to Terracoin? I certainly notice that mining LTC my GPU's get a lot hotter then mining Bitcoin/aka Terracoin. :-)
Even so, if it drops more, I'll jump back to LTC. :-)

I do see a slight decrease in LTC hashrate in the recent week, but I also see a rally of BTC against LTC, which are historically also linked. I would say people who mine TRC has reduced LTC hashrate by 1-5% or so.

With current difficulties/prices, at 2Ghash/2Mhash, BTC is slightly more profitable, by a margin of a few cents, so at this point, I would say its 100% up to preference. Do keep in mind though, when you are playing with the calculations, Litecoin mining uses a bit more electricity, and more heat. Check out http://allchains.info/calc.html and mess around with the numbers.
