To make it more clear this thread is about the erosion of religious liberty in the United States and is centered around the idea of Kim Davis as a symbol against the fear there will not be space in public life for those who oppose same-sex marriage and the debates around the issues related to it.
Thanks for the clarification - I clearly understand why this thread is different from others. So are you self moderating this? Are you allowing free debate or is this only for pro "erosion of religious liberty" discussion?
I don't think your OP really makes a case
for Kim Davis' actions. What other examples do you have of religious liberty being eroded in the US? Also, does your definition of religious liberty only apply to Christianity (Kim Davis' religion) or to all religions?
I think that latter question is really important. You could be pro Christianity (and con other religions) or you could be for more religious influence in the laws and society in the US.

It's an interesting question Harry, considering your input it makes sense to rebuild the thread and lock this one and make a thread that focuses more on the challenges to religious liberty on a Global scale and I guess religious activism would be fair game such as the recent attempts by churches in Canada and the US to sponsor immigrants to their countries doesn't always need to have a negative spin.
I think I'll make a religion in society thread instead (or Religious Synergy (Rsync) to be short)
That said I don't want it to overlap with the Why Atheists hate Religion thread or Why people hate Islam which is more on the side of a general overview and a Gay-Religious Issues thread may be too constrictive to the scale.
To be fair it is distinctly different than both of those threads that already exist here as it would imply a positive bias over a negative one and would include more interaction points.
As for moderation I was planning to let it run as an open thread and not be self-moderated to allow vocal discussion but the breadth of discussion is just as important as allowing vigorous debate on contentious issues, the more debated ones will likely be the ones to pass the scale to get their own Politics and Society threads opened the rest are good for highlighting.
In terms of updating it I would post a topic related to a religious issue as they come up, whether its about cakes/marriages/polygamy/adoption
Some occasional bumping as these issues tend to bubble up now and then but not too rapidly unless it was a busy week.
Long way to say I'm closing this one out of consideration for your ideas and spending a bit more time trying to mold what type of thread it will be but kind of want something like the Press Board where issues are posted and then discussed, with the promoted articles board if people want to elevate it to a debate.
