I am thinking about getting an S7. This would replace my 2 s5's and 2 s3's. I am a little confused on what power supply I would need. It looks like bitmain has a nice server power supply, But it needs 240V?

I am in the US so 115V in my house. I have an antec 1200w and a 1500w power supply also. Being used to run the existing miners.

I would like to run the s7 and 1 s5 for solo mining.

Thanks

Both your dryer and oven use 220.
You can run a line off of those plugs for about $50 USD.   Wink

Solo mining is alive and profitable!
Helped? Thanks! 1CXRFh4bDVFBsUzoHMMDbTMPcBP14RUTus

I have gas appliances, but I wonder how much it would cost to run a 220 circuit...

call an electrical contractor get an estimate.

The shorter the line the less it costs.

Also a lot depends on your main box. 150 amps or 200 amps = okay

100 amps = no go.

I would agree completely on getting an estimate.  If you know what your doing you can see how many amps in main circuit breaker, but if you don't know what your doing DO NOT touch it.  It can be extremely dangerous for someone without knowledge and also you can get this info free in an estimate.

I do have advice unplug and hide your miners or at least have them where they will not see.   I had a sub-panel with miners in the room. Asked for just a 240 (30 amp breaker) to be put in with one plug.  The miners scared the electrician off and for less then 100 dollars in parts I got a quote of over 1 thousand dollars.

But I would agree if your house has 100 amp only there most likely will not be enough juice.  I have 200 amp for house and 100 amp for my miner area.

Is it possible to run the s7 on a 110 based power supply? 1300W or so?

They report it uses "1,210 watts" so likely could run on 110.   Only thing is getting a PSU with enough PCIe cords.

They kept the S5+ design.  So 3 hashing boards x3 PCIe each.   So 9 there and then one for controller so 10 PCIe cords.

this adapter give you the 10th pcie cable and must be used with the controller.

there are cheaper ways to do it.

Personally i would probably go with something like 2x evga 1000 on one 15a 120v breaker. Flip the power bar switch, both turn on at same time, voltage should be the same (mines are very stable). Plenty of cables.

Great efficiency, the draw put them at optimal load. Meh. A bit expensive but quiet and reliable, 10 years warranty.

I think Bitmain said if they arent powered at the same time, the controller need to be powered last. (Probably because the board don't have any draw until the controller is on).

Only way I would mix is if you are not mixing on hasing boards.   If you power entire hashing board from one then yes... should be ok.

But if you do mix PSU's on same hashing board it will void warranty if bitmain catches you.

I get what you mean, indeed any sort of mixing PSU for a single board is a big nono. Warranty aside, if they have different voltage, i think it can fuck things up.

But that remind me that there's a uneven amount of boards, so you could go with one 1000/1300 and one 750, powering 2 board on the 1000 and 1 board + controller on the 750. At this rate you might as well get a 1600 and do;

3x 6pin + 6+2pin cables, 1 cable (two connector) per board
and 3x 6pin cables , 1 per board
This would fill the 6 of the 9 VGA/PCI-e sockets in the PSU and probably balance the load fine in the cables i think.

One more 6pin for the controller. 7/9 VGA used, you still have some spare room.

The 1600w has a wooping 9 VGA connector and apparently come with 9x 8pin (6+2) and 5x 6pin. Thats a huge amount of cables, i'm impressed.
They should be 16AWG, since the ones on all my G2 are.

Might be worth considering forking over the 300$ for the PSU, maybe. IF you don't already have the 750-1300s on hand anyways.
