i cant get electrum online

Hi all,

I cant get electrum online and receive money someone sent me.
I get this:

Not connected
Disconected from server
Server: autoconnect (checked) electrum.electricnewyear.net 50002
then a window listing some default servers starting with electrum.no-ip.org
protocol: SSL
proxy: NONE
Local Host: 8080

I have Windows 8
It never worked.
I tried various combinations using different options for Protocol nd Proxy

The default Windows firewall should not be a problem but it can be something to look at. Go to control panel and then security settings and then the firewall. There will be an option to allow a program through the firewall. If Electrum is not in the list add it to that list, there is an option for adding a program to the list on there somewhere.

I added Electrum to the clearance list of my firewall, unckecked the autoconnect box, tried some other servers, but it still won't do...
The program I added to the list had an .exe extension and was found on my desktop. Maybe this is not the real program, but it's the onlyone I can find. There's no such thing called Electrum in my program files

Sounds like you are running the stand-alone version.

Not sure what the problem can be. I had a similar problem about two days back with Electrum-LTC but it was due to my internet connection. All I could suggest it to perhaps try the other version i.e. the one that you install on Windows. You can find the latest downloads for Electrum here https://download.electrum.org/

Done that. Downloaded and installed the 2.4.4 version. Added it to my firewall list. Still not working...
Maybe restarting the computer in order to have it taken effect?

Worth a try as I really cannot think what could be preventing the connection unless maybe a anti-virus program....

I think you're on a slower connection and that is causing the issue. If it is possible use a faster network, if not then just turn all the apps off which uses the net (torrents or any other downloads) and then connect to internet and then start it up and give it a 10 minutes and hopefully it'll show the green light.

As long as you have the Private keys of the addresses containing your funds you can import those into any client and get hold of your funds but I am just wondering why it isn't working, out of all the clients I have tried Electrum is the most easiest to set up and syncs within seconds.  Before you download another client, I'd suggest downloading the older version from the official electrum website and see if they work. I am on Windows 8 too btw and using an older version and it get connected as soon as I turn it on.
