I never imagined my first purchase of a physical good with Bitcoin would be so yummy! I bought two-dozen cupcakes for a fleet-week ("Blue Angels" fighter jets and such flying around) rooftop party.

We shot some B-roll of my purchase for promo purposes, which I'll post once it's edited.

I love answering the question "What can I actually buy with Bitcoin?" with "Cupcakes, right here in San Francisco on 9th Street." Cupcakes sound so cute and innocent; they are the antitheses of the 'naughty' stuff Bitcoin haters seem to have top of mind when I talk to them.

I'm working on getting my good friend to accept Bitcoin at his pizza shop.... ::crosses fingers::

Here's a pic of the actual cupcakes...

By the way, the cupcake store is: http://cupsandcakesbakery.com/
Tom, a Bitcoin fan, is the husband of the store owner. We met at a Bitcoin "drinkup" here in SF a few weeks back.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with the bakery in any way.

Exactly!  And the cupcake shop, being the first cupcake shop in San Fran to accept bitcoins, got your business instead of some other cupcake shop.  The same type of business Meze grill in Brooklyn enjoys, Room 77 in Berlin, Whiskey Dicks in Orlando, and New Mexico Tea Company in Albuquerque all enjoy.

Out of curiosity, was this online (for delivery) or in-person?   If in-person, how did they do the transaction?  (e.g., on their mobile?  tablet?  or ?)

Thanks Matt for your suggestions.  We rolled out an enhancement to the iPad invoice today, you'll have to go try it again Smiley

I'm hoping to get the final video from Tom very soon, so we can post it!

Stephen - they use an iPad at the point-of-sale.  you'll see it in the video.

Kudos to Tom for putting it together! By the way, the cupcakes were delicious! They tasted all the more delicious whilst I bragged to all my co-workers about buying them in Bitcoin.

Probably the exact same iPad they are using for Square register as well?  (i.e., there was no incremental cost for accepting Bitcoin?)

Here is the official announcement from Cups and Cakes Bakery.  If you are in San Francisco, go check them out!  They are also catering the next bitcoin meetup.

http://cupsandcakesbakery.com/2012/10/buy-cupcakes-with-bitcoins/

and yes, if they already use a tablet or any smart device at the register, there is zero incremental cost to adding BitPay.

I got the same error when trying to upload to Youtube.  YouTube is detecting a copyrighted song on the soundtrack, and thus YouTube will not enable it for mobile.
