As this discussion thread is kind of getting pointless, I hope to get a general idea of your preferences.

Concerns to my understanding are that the one symbols are not what we used before, other symbols are confusing for being a currency symbol/something else already and other symbols only display right on some computers/in the browser/...

As always let me know if I forgot your favorite option.

Ok, Atlas, I agree with you that "official" is a bad word in the bitcoin context. Bare with me and vote anyways for the favorite symbol among the bitcoin community here on this forum.

The first one would i think be better if the horizontal line were on the other side...cuz then the "white space" inside the lower section of the B would make a C.

Most currencies do not have a symbol, just a name and an abbreviation.  Swedish Kronor are SEK, for example.  No funny K with slashes

It seems like BTC would be good enough although I think B would also work. Unless you are a physicist working with magnetic fields, there is nothing else to confuse units of B with. That would also allow the typical SI unit modifications of cB, mB, uB, nB, etc. for dealing with fractional amounts.

It's not reserved for the thai baht as the $ sign isn't reserved for the US Dollar. Signs can be used for whatever purpose.

While I like BTC I don't like this symbol as presented on bitcointalk.
In my ignorance I thought ฿ was just a variant of BTC like the $ $ is to $ or $

For what it is worth I like both ฿ and Ƀ - in my little mind's eye I associated ฿ with Americans; and Ƀ with Europeans.

As far as symbols go I think ฿ is probably the most appropriate, who knows the history of the symbol, and how did a small country like Thailand end up with its own symbol, while more prominent nations did not?

Change is good, sometimes. This community doesn't strike me as one that enjoys leaving things alone.

For instance... all of the world's money.  

Use whatever symbol you like... there's no "official" symbol, and it would be best if there never will be.

the "ß" is just stupid. that's a normal (but to admit, very odd) character of my language. apart from that, the poll is just how i thought of it

I really like the "Ƀ", just because the other popular symbol can so easily be confused with the Thai Baht symbol.

And "ß" is really now option that just the sz symbol in German (spoken ss, "sharp S").

Seriously, no one recognizes this as the Greek Beta? I though it should be widely known, at least in science/geek circles. Besides, Beta and Eszett should look different when you have a decent font.

Personally, I prefer BTC to any symbol, if only because it is already available in plain ASCII.

This is a lowercase beta: β
This is a lowercase eszett: ß
This is an uppercase bee: B
This is the numeral eight: 8

These characters all look similar, but are completely different. Try not to get them confused. The character is question is a lowercase eszett, not a lowercase beta.
