Hey BitcoinTalk,

The site's URL is http://btcburns.cf.

I got this idea from /u/bruce_fenton's comment here:

Quote
Is there a site that tracks all known burned coins?

Woukd be interesting and also a great tool for analysts -- because we really don't have 21 million coins to be in circulation once all issued -- it's some number less than that

I spent a few days working on it and just launched it. I hope it's a useful tool! If you can, please consider donating to the site at 1LH4SWbAVMLB5BwjuJsEADZbW6WNUC7fhb (feel free to verify that address on the site). The first thing I'd like to do is buy a .com (or something else) domain, as the one I'm using right now is a free .cf from Freenom.

Here's the reddit post announcing it.

Let me know if you have any feedback or questions (you can also email btcburns@gmail.com),

Simple but neat website but can you explain more about what you mean by Note also that the bitcoin address used as the reward in the genesis block is included as a burned address since its coins cannot be spent

Actually that's incorrect and needs to be updated on the site. The reward for mining the first block's coins aren't spendable (read more here). However, the rest of the ~13 btc sent to it *can* be spent. I'm going to update the site by removing that address from the list and just adding 50 btc to the total.

It will be nice to do the updating soon before a lot of people spread the information because I also knew that was not correct.

http://btcburns.cf is a nice looking website with good concepts but what gives me concern is the .cf which is a free domain name and definitely it might cost the OP more than 2.5 btc to renew it next year when the website must have been truly established.

The website is updated now but I still agreed with alwinlinzee over the issue of free domain name because they will surely give you an outrageous bill when you are to renew the account.

That's a good idea, but I think it will probably be pretty hard to find ALL the addresses that do this...but hopefully most of them.

I'm planning on buying a .com or other popular domain with the donations I got to the address and on reddit. Why would it cost more than 2.5 btc?

nice project man. You "simply" scan the whole blockchain searching for all transactions made to those addresses listed in you site? And then sum the amount of BTC? Right?

Yep, but we add in 50 btc for the genesis block's coinbase transaction (read more). I'm also planning on adding more to the sum, like btc sent during OP_RETURN, and a few other addresses. The site uses SmartBit.com.au's API, and only updates once every eight hours because the current way we do it uses one API request for each address, but we're changing it soon so it only uses 2-3 requests (200 addresses will be searched in one request) so it will be updated in much shorter (~1 minute) intervals.

You can simply check their website for the amount they are selling their top domain names and those expired domain with traffics.

Renewing that domain cost almost the same as a .com...

The site adds 50 btc to the sum of the balances of the addresses because the first transaction (miner's reward of 50 btc) is not spendable. Read up in the thread or check the site for more info on this.
