Hi all.

Been reading a lot of stuff about bitcoin since last year and tried my hand at mining too to get a feel of it.
All the reading and understanding makes me feel positive about bitcoin in the coming years, though I know there is a chance of it going the other way too.
I have decided to take the plunge into hardcore mining (according to my standards) and I am looking into buying the Antminer S7 which starts shipping out in about a week or so.

However, I am a bit skeptical about the setup that I will be using for mining.
Here is what I am thinking of doing:
1. Get an Asus router with 3G/4G USB connectivity.
2. Tether my phone's 4G connection to the router via USB.
3. Connect the laptop and S7 miner to the router, setup everything else, and start mining!

My confusion lies in the network setup that I am opting for.
I am wondering if the miner would be able to connect to the internet/servers using this setup?
On a whole, will this setup work or will I face any network issues?

I am a newbie (so please be nice) and tried to find info regarding mining on this setup and I couldn't find anything useful.
So any info would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hmm all a bit confusing and complex. My comments are.

1) S7 does not need a PC just an internet connection.
2) If you have a wired internet connection then use it. It will be more reliable with lower latency.
3) If your only means of accessing the Internet is wireless then you will not want to tie up your phone Tethering.

So if you are desperate and 3G/4G is your only Internet access then use a USB Dongle & Router. However I would find a way of trying it out first before committing to an S7 Purchase.

You would also need to check on the amount of data that would be transferred and how much data your plan includes?  Someone else will be able to help with Data needed to support an S7

Hi Rich.

Thanks for the quick response!
I have a wired connection. But I also have access to free power source, where there is no internet connection. Hence the USB tethering setup.
About mining without a PC, I must admit I do not know about this. But I would still need the PC to monitor my mining, right? Please enlighten me on this!
I looked into using a USB dongle, but if I was going to pay for the dongle data plan, then I might as well pay for electricity at home using wired connection.
Currently my phone data plan give my 3GB of data, but I can upgrade by paying just a few bucks.

However I would find a way of trying it out first before committing to an S7 Purchase.
This is exactly what I am looking to do right now, but now sure how I would test it? Can you suggest anything?

Thanks!

To try it out I would buy off ebay an S1. Will not make money but will be very cheap and sets up and runs exactly the same as an S7.

Yes you need a PC for setup, you can however connect to the miner over the Internet, once setup miner will run on it's own. You can then log into the miner to check it or make changes. Or for a quick check that it is hashing you can log into the Pool it's mining at and look at it's hash rate there.
