New Avatar Dimension on new forum

It would be nice that the Avatar dimensions improve as there is a lot of spaces for them to get improve as I will demonstrate here:

Note: I blurred the account and it's comment as I don't own the used account on sample



As you can see on the above image , all the empty boxes are the available spaces for improvement of avatar dimension so I measured each and you could see the stats of them and I added each up to get the maximum avatar dimension improvement sizes and I came up with 280 x 155 . It would be a lot better as it would significantly improve the dimension from 120 x 80 and we could fit better pictures without losing their quality.



It would really benefit if each blank spaces could be used in a better way , hope this could get the attention of developers and that might make them implement this in the new forum.



edit: I forgot to put space for online presence and custom title which both could fit on a 25 pixel height so the dimensions could reach up to 280 x 130

some of those spaces is going to get filled by staff rank/custom title.
look at one of hilariousandco's post, for example.

plus there's the online indicator.

would be nice to get more space for avatars, though. can't be so creative with 120x80 limit.

ooppps I forgot about the online part and a custom title part, that could fit on a 25 pixel height so minus the 155 and there is still 130 pixels that could be used as to the 80 pixels of height at the moment

compared to the current one yes is much bigger but if the same dimensions be kept for new forums , its very hard to design a good looking avatar that actually fits in the current dimension of 120 x 80 which if this could get an improve version or some sort of bigger dimension on the upcoming forum , this could give the designers more freedom of work as the smaller the pixels , the harder to create a high quality avatar also another thing is if the new dimension (if ever there will be any) could be square type rather than rectangular type of dimension could have a better impact in my opinion

I have to say that I agree with this suggestion. I have attempted to create custom avatars in the past, but the 120x80 size is very hard to work with.

I agree the idea of new avatar dimesnions.
I would suggest every rank to have different avatar size opportunity.
The height to be bigger depending on the rank, but not the width.

yes exactly , it's a head ache to make a decent logo that could be seen well on smaller sizes

I'm in a country where the internet speed is very slow but still manage to have few websites that I put very large pictures (high quality) in each articles and doesn't affect the loading time ... a little bit more increase in size it won't make any noticeable effect

This is the best idea, but maybe it can be changed based on subforums where the announcements are very important and the avatars can be disabled.

The avatar width does not affects directly the internet speed, because it affect the size (kb, mb) of avatar itself.
It can be a small avatar but its size can be 5mb, and it can be a large avatar width and heigh but is few kilobytes.

Because the forum user interface and user experience will be changed soon i proposed to change a bit and the avatars size.

We still don't know how the new forum design will look but increasing just a little bit of the avatar height for different rank would look good.
