I got an email an hour ago from them, and then discovered from google that someone else had posted a link to the email here http://dpaste.com/1KH2JJC . Scam? Upcoming pump and dump? What is this? Seems very sketchy.

In order to participate make a deposit to 1C9XRe3TpcmkpYKevhGmxsJis8TbkvB3Yy (General depository account)
This is a obvious scam. They're requesting you to deposit money and promising you a 150% payout. Just block the sender and you're good to go.

considering a google search reveals they were once linked to hsbc (who dropped the relationship based on money laundering concerns- a bit ironic really) and I had heard none of this ever, I definitely felt it warranted a discussion

Yeah, me too.
So, I send them as many bitcoins as I wish, and in about a month they'll absolutely definitely guaranteed send me back all the bitcoins and 50% more.
Yeeerrrrrs.
There was a time, two and a bit years ago, when I actually fell for that. BTCJam, they called it. Of course back then bitcoins were worth maybe ten quid each. So the lesson was well worth it really.

It's not worth discussing. I get a lot of similar and different spam in my junk folder every day. This reminds me of the time that I got to keep part of the money that I transferred for a Nigerian prince. Take my advice, just ignore it and lock this thread.

I have noticed how much of Bitcoin related junk and spam I get lately in my email's junk folder. This was surprising to me since it has started happening just lately. I am sure that some of the Bitcoin services for which I have subscribed to have sold my email address to the spammers. I mean how to explain differently all this BTC spam all of the sudden. I guess that I have made a mistake by subscribing to all these services with my primary email address. Now I am screwed. Edit: I just checked my junk folder and I got it too. @Mitchell You are right, I am using the same handle at LBC. How the hell did they get all of our email addresses from the LBC. If localbitcoins has sold our address then this is pure BS!

I got this email as well and from what I've gathered, they use email addresses from the LBC database. Just ignore it, because it's spam/scam/whatever.

I got the same email just now to my forum email address. (that I rarely (if not never) use outside here). It's a possibility that they got the dump of the forum email addresses for this...

I don't think so. I never used LBC. also if it's bitcointalk email then I didn't get one, but I changed my email about a two weeks ago. kind of alarming if they somehow got the latest email database. edit: forgot to say that I got one on another email from another account. I never changed my email on that one.

I'm quite certain that it's not the forum email addresses, as they sent a message to an email address that I've never used on Bitcointalk before.

let's see... I keep track of where I used an email. might have missed some, but it might help. it's not very long because I mostly just use that email to register a second account.
bitcointalk.org, bitbybooks.com, gawminers.com, zenminer.com, bitcoininsanity.com, virwox.com, btc-e.com, nicehash.com, cryptsy.com, cex.io, joystream.co. non bitcoin-related site: only fiverr and skype.
there.

They could have just scraped the site to grab the emails. can they do that when almost all emails are hidden? from what I read, they are completely hidden and the only way to get the hidden emails is to hack the database.

They're not using a single address. They're using different address for each user. The address assigned to me was different from what you've mentioned. And BTW, I don't have a LBC account, still I received the spam.
