In one article I have read, if internet is like a father, then it's child is bitcoin. So, comparing these two are not meaningful. Both are based on TCP/IP still has completely different applications.

bitcoin is more like torrent with money, you exchange data that have a value, nothing more or less

if bitcoin will be successful it's up to the people who are willing to accept it as a new form of payment

I hear this comparison a lot and also that bitcoin is just the first application like email was in the early internet. The problem is that email "still sucks" in 2015. Hopefully we can learn from previous mistakes.

Venture capital is capital flowing into high risk investments (with potentially very high return). Typically venture capitalists have a broad portfolio of investment targets to mitigate the risk.

The high venture capital inflow to Bitcoin companies is indicative that Bitcoin is seen as a disruptive technology with potentially high returns. However that does in no way mean that success is guaranteed.

Bitcoin cannot survive without internet and internet is not limited to bitcoin. There is no gurantee that bitcoin will get same sucess as internet

It's totally true, cause Bitcoin is Peer to Peer just like torrent works.
And because those are similar, then we can predict what would happen next.

Yes, there is a way to measure this data although it is not well known
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-venture-capital/

If you scroll to the bottom of the page you can see that over the year so far venture capital is already 450 million dollars and it can be broken down by company reading through the list, last year was a huge year at 361.5 million which was a giant step from 2013 at 95 million and 2012 where it was 2.13 million, the multiplier is getting smaller but the amount of money in the system is still growing.

I am not sure if they can be compared. The dollars when Internet began had different value than they have right now. Internet has developed a lot because it really has many many uses. Bitcoin does not. There is nothing really comparable to Internet, but Bitcoin can be compared with regular money and lots of different altcoins...

I think if the bitcoin core devs can put their ego's aside and work together, this project could be a total success. Smiley

The comparison should be digital currency vs internet. Bitcoin is just the first incarnation of the idea and it's going to produce countless offshoots that we haven't even thought of yet, most of which won't have much to do with money at all. Maybe it'll continue to be the daddy but it's far too early to tell.

The early investment in Bitcoin projects was encouraging, but the latest trend is to invest in "Private" Blockchain development and that is not good for Bitcoin. If one of these

companies are successful with their own "Private" Blockchain, they will not use Bitcoin as much. If the governments get behind these "Private" Blockchain technology, we

would be in trouble. Most people would not use it out of principle, but if it's forced, it could be a problem. A divided market, is not a good thing.  Angry

Time will tell...Just like Facebook and YouTube, and Yahoo and AOL in their day, this price is entirely based on a belief that it will create value one day.

Indeed, to say that bitcoin is going to be the "internet" of internet currency is kind of a stretch when you consider that the internet when it was being developed and adopted by the masses didn't have any alternatives to compete with... it was just the internet.

Myspace was really "the daddy" of social media, but look where that ended up... only time will tell what happens, it's an exciting time in the crypto world that's for sure.

It does look that way if you compare based on several indicators. But it could also end up a total failure. Internet does not face so much issue on trust and reputation in the past the way I see it.

not necessarily.

The amount of $ in circulation in 1990's is far smaller than what is in circulation today.

Do an inflation adjusted value system and compare it.
