Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Isn't that how gambling works lol?

SATOSHI DICE Over 98% break even odds!

I'm pretty sure they tell you that you won't win in the long run themselves. The point is, you have that chance of winning, and then walking away.

It take some time and money to realize this because SatoshiDice looks fair but it is not fair.

The pot has to be filled with enough money for the lucky ones but the lucky ones do not realize that they are lucky ones and have to run away.

Satoshi dice is fair. The odds may be against you, but they don't cheat.

Surely OP is just trolling.   No one can really be that stupid, can they?

Charlie Kelly: I'm pleading the 5th.  The Attorney: I would advise you do that.  Charlie Kelly: I'll take that advice under cooperation, alright? Now, let's say you and I go toe-to-toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor?  The Attorney: You know, I don't think I'm going to do anything close to that and I can clearly see you know nothing about the law.

The main goal of gambling isn't really to get rich. Its to break even and have gained the entertainment value. If you come out ahead, nice! If you come out a little below, still good, that $ you lost was your entertainment cost. And if you lose all of your money, well that blows.

The only strategy that works is to gamble with the expectation that you will lose everything. That way, you have gained something no matter what the outcome is (otherwise, you would have no reason to gamble in the first place).

Go here: http://src.satoshidice.com/rev2/

And click on the "Leaderboard" tab. You'll see the people who have played the most, and whether they have won or lost, and how much. Many lose, many win. It is gambling after all, and there is a small house edge, so the average player will lose net-net, but some win alot and some lose alot, and that's how gambling works Smiley

Interesting, but I think I'd rather see the leaderboard sorted by net profit, not by amount staked.  Better still, make the column headings clickable so I can sort by whatever field I want to.

Great idea, leaderboard is now sorted by net profit (you might need to hard refresh).

the only reason I can think of not to play satoshi dice is that it is boring as crap.

at least some other games of chance have some level of entertainment or excitement
beyond diddling with the bitcoin client, waiting for a return transaction, and otherwise
sitting in front of a computer doing blah.

but hey. that is just me.

SatoshiDice is a very fair example of a gambling site IMO. House percent is small and the whole thing is transparent. Of course there's no strategy to always win. Why would anyone run such a site?

It's quite good to get some money for beer. I made 52 bets, took 15 mins. 5 BTC in - 6 BTC out (https://blockchain.info/address/14C4yMGKdqdqFRMoCZtxLqntL9ydS3rxnA).

There's some truth there... I was up almost 100btc till they lowered the MaxBet to 5... my 100 profit dropped to 20 btc in a matter of hours, and I quit while I was ahead.

The MaxBet is back up now, but with a larger house percentage.. So you _could_ make money, not sure you can now..
