There is hardly anyone in India, who holds a bitcoin (1BTC), but not have a Credit Card. Yes, there are poor people here. But, they have not heard of bitcoin either.

Cash for BTC? Whoa, never heard of that, can you elaborate a bit? How do the sellers make it fair and all the rest?

There are lots of smart people and genius in India. Many big companies are outsourcing financial services to India.

However, in general, the basic infrastructure required for bitcoin to work in India is still lacking. A lot to catch-up (maybe another 5-10 years?) before we talk about how bitcoin may reach out to those without a bank account.

To all the nay sayers.. India has the second largest population in the world. Even if a tiny fraction (say 0.0001%) would use this feature, that would still bring more use than the total bitcoin use today.. And don't tell me that less than that have access to internet.

EDIT: 19% of India has access to internet, which equals 327 million people.

I think people are underestimating it and India is way more advanced that we think. All big corporation have moved or moving to India. Yes..they won't spend money on $1000 tablet but they would spend it on $50 tablet..they don't have fios but they do have 10mbps internet in most places and it's dirt cheap...everyone in India has debit card...it's not what it used to be 10 or 20 yrs ago. If you think it's not advanced enough..you've either not been there in last 5 yrs or you just believe whatever you see on tv (which is never true)

Dont underestimate India. People who are capable of calling a cab do have a credit/debit card with them. Also, government has launched banking for all scheme in which they are also providing credit/debit cards to the people along with bank account. Also, 180million people have joined banks under this scheme(in just one year).
Also if someone is dumb enough to not know about credit card(even after the government initiatives), then he surely wont know about bitcoin too.

At the moment, I see this exact problem everywhere in the world, not just in India. OK, you have few countries that are really advancing before the others in what we can call Bitcoin adoption, but this is pretty much a landscape everywhere in the world.

On the other side, let's not underestimate India. Huge country, huge population, many IT experts coming from this country and as we could see an access to the Internet of about 327 million is a huge opportunity in my opinion.

Bitcoin isn't all that advanced, it is basically a matter of confirmations, address and wallet. If you know how to use a smart phone, transferring Bitcoin is mostly just a matter of scanning a Qr code and you would be having the benefits of getting lower fees and faster transfers.
India may have a slower internet but a slow internet connection is more than enough to broadcast a Bitcoin transaction, when using clients such as mycelium which doesn't download blocks to your phone. If uber is used, the person most probably have a internet connection too.

Bitcoin is much needed for India kind of country. For example, Indian users can not hold money in paypal and can not spend it's balance.  Multilevel of taxation. Tax for bank interest. So, Indian online users have more future along with bitcoins. Do not know, RBI may bring bitLicence kind of new rules too.
