Mycellium local trader is probably your best bet to buy anonymously. It's a smart phone app and wallet and connects you with nearby people that you can meet up with and buy in cash.

buy bitcoin with cash and in person (face to face). just remember to do the transaction in a public place not in an alley. and don't let them lure you in their car

which wallets are best to use

if you are ok with having a full node (~40GB) on your pc both downloading it and keeping it on your HDD, then core or armory is the best.
otherwise choose a light wallet (SPV) like Electrum.
most secure way is using any of these wallets offline , or creating a paper wallet.

I think you can start with a mobile wallet on your phone. Many transaction will involve the use of QR code, so phone camera is perfect for that. Just be careful and learn all the security measures.

I really like the electrum wallet. It is easy and simple to set up, jet safe for a beginner as you don't get to choose your own password.

Buying your first bitcoins anonymously may be a bit hard though. Most places require you to sign up with your real details.

Most services these days have strict KYC/AML regulations to adhere to, so buying Bitcoin anonymously has become very difficult. If you go the person to person route, you

might end up buying from a possible criminal. When you use Localbitcoin and one-on-one transactions, be wary of criminals and take some people with you, just to be sure.

The best way to buy Bitcoin anonymous is by person to person. Localbitcoins.com and mycelium trade locator shoud be the best options for that.

Furthermore there several really good wallets out there. For desktop wallets you can go with Bitcoin qt (full download of thr Blockchain is needed), armory, or several light wallets like Electrum.

For smartphones good wallets are mycelium and airbitz for instance.
