I was mining on old computers in 2009 and 2010, lost interest and threw the computers away. I always keep my hard drives, much to the chagrin of my wife. Started looking through the drives and found twenty odd coins in multiple wallets. I held them through the ramp up and didn't sell them since I wasn't really paying close attention to the market. By the time I noticed they dropped I sold them at around $300. Bought a new gaming computer and other odd and ends.
Moral of the story, don't get rid of your old hard drives, always search for wallets if you were piddling with bitcoin in the early stages.
