Inspired by maptor's thread about Japan, and spurred for my ever-growing hunger for Bitcoins, I'm offering a similar service to people interested in products from Greater China.

I can acquire items of historical interest in quality ranging from mass-produced, overpriced knick-knacks you're likely to find at 'imports' stores in the West, to items handcrafted by experienced masters (they're not as expensive as you might expect!). Some popular items include

Then of course there is China's massive industrial base. I have actually run a small sourcing business on the side for three years now, buying medium quantities of Chinese goods for small and medium-sized businesses in America. I'm not ready to start accepting Bitcoins in a large scale for that business, but trying one or two orders in Bitcoins could be fun to try, if you have the need. What I tell my customers is that if you have an item that can be mass produced, I can get it for you cheaper in Asia. Apparel, toys, raw materials, consumer jewelry, books, other printed items. You name it.

Go is called Weiqi in China. I don't think it's as popular here as in Japan, but it actually has quite a following in Hong Kong. No vendors or craftsmen jump to mind, but I'm sure I can find them. What would you be looking for? A game board?

As for alcohol, you'll see a picture of a Moutai bottle I posted above. It's a kind of Baijiu, Chinese white liquor, made from Sorghum plant. Most Chinese liquors are. There is a kind of Guilin Baijiu called 三花酒 that's made from rice.

As I said above, I live in Hong Kong. And yes I can get electronics. But you'll have to get more specific about what you want. A lot of luxury electronics like smartphones are cheaper in the west, especially the US. Computer equipment, on the other hand, like miners' beloved ASICs, for example....


I actually never considered marketing my sourcing to miners, but now that I think of it, that might be quite a revenue stream for me.

On the other hand, part of why I'm offering this service at all is because I want there to be more opportunities for Bitcoins outside of mining and ponzis. I think large-scale mining for profits' sake is actually not good for Bitcoin as a currency. But that's another argument.

You mean sweet like in flavor? Not bitter or burning? You won't like Chinese alcohols, then. They tend to be highly potent with a bite to them. Is there a particular brand of sake that you know you like? I can see if I can find it cheaply or a Chinese knock-off.
